Thanks......new clutch for me!
Just wanted to say thanks to Black02Wagon for starting this thread it was a real help for me in getting a new clutch put in WRB 02' WRX. Subaru finally got my parts in (clutch & flywheel assembly) and i am actually dropping it off tonight so the good old boys at Cumberland Valley Motors (CVM) in PA can get to work on it tommorrow. For anyone in PA with a Subaru and having problems i highly recommend going to CVM Subaru, they treat every individual w/ great respect. They have great customer service
Thanks to all members of i-club, most of you guys are a great deal of help in modding my rex.
talk later,
Justin

cool...
I am glad to see that most people have had good response from dealers with regards to this issue.
I dropped my car off last Tuesday night, and Wednesday afternoon, I received a call from the Service Manager at Rye Ford/Subaru stating that there is an issue, and that they will be ordering all the new parts.
Bummer that I had to leave the car there all week, and being that today is Monday, I am hoping that it's ready, already. I miss driving my car...but I hope that everything turns out alright...as far as the new parts go. Can't wait to drive it, and see how it goes.
As for "break-in" and all that, I suppose I will take it easy for the first few hundred miles, so that there is no chance of the flywheel becoming warped, or whatever. Any other recommedations would be great.
Later, and I will let ya all know how it goes. BTW, my wagon has about 32K on it so far...

curious...
but did any of you have to pay anything for the "clutch disk?" I just received a call from my dealer's service manager telling me that I would have to pay $153.90 for the clutch disk...since I have 32K on the car...? Does that sound like something I would have to pay for? Seems a little fishy to me...but I guess I am gonna have to pay for it, otherwise, they won't give me my car back.
Any info./concern is appreciated...I don't want to have to front 193 bucks that I don't have, especially when the SM told me that everything was being covered under warranty.

That's very fishy. I'd call SOA soon. The flywheel isn't supposed to be replaced if you have more than 30k (they claim that after that many miles it's the same as the replacement) but the disc is the main cause of the problem. It should all be free.

Clutch noise warranty fix
I just had my 2003 2.5 TS clutch fixed under warranty yesterday.
the issue was when I fully depressed the clutch, I can hear noise like "zzzzzz..."(no matter in neutral or gears) and clutch also shuddered a little bit (not too much as other guys) when start moving.
Noise's gone and shudder much better now.
here is the information:
quantity P/N Desc
1 30210AA590 COVER CP-CLUTCH
1 30502AA051 BRG-CLUTCH REL
2 051030300 PIN 051030250

not sure about how long it lasts....sorry.
BAN SUVS -- I will be calling SOA one of these days when I have a little bit of time. I had to pay the dealer the $153 for a specific part that should have been under warranty. That's not fair...and the SM told me that SOA was not going to pay for it, like they did not with the other cars this dealer's service dept. fixed. Who knows...can't really believe anyone these days.
Also, now that I have the car back, first gear is a PITA to get going (it seems to "skip" while I am engaging the clutch...almost like the "slip" feature no longer works)...I thought the warranty work would have taken care of this issue...but I don't think that the parts were installed correctly. There is also some kind of noise in the system (around 2500 RPM) that was not there before...so I am gonna call the dealer and have them look at it again. MAN! I should have left it alone...and saved myself the hassle of doing this.
Oh well, I will keep ya all posted, as soon as I have some more info. I just wish this problem never existed in the first place...but, oh well, nothing I can do to turn back time.

Got the new clutch
I got the new clutch installed by my selling dealership. I wrote the General manger of the dealership a 10 page letter and had him read it in front of me.
The new clutch is very soft, but it doesn't chatter. I took pictures of the old clutch parts and I am doing an analysis

What if Dealership Can't Duplicate the Clutch Shudder?
I'm very grateful for the posts re: the clutch shudder & the Subaru Technical Service Bulletin on this issue.
After reading the descriptions, I have no doubt that I'm experiencing the same thing with my 1 year old 2002 WRX sedan (21.5k miles).
My concern is this: summer is approaching, our nights are getting much warmer now here in TX & the shudder can only be reproduced when the car is cool. I don't think the dealership will be able to reproduce this problem until the Fall ! I haven't experienced it myself in a couple of weeks now due to the warmer temps.
Any suggestions?

Thanks Philtronix for the advice. If you don't mind, what issue of Road & Track contained an article on this problem?
