As for the valvetrain, ask dcoty or NAbeast, they are doing big bad EJ25 buildups with Honda-like redlines.

Yeah, nearly every car tops out at 62 mph in second gear to gain that extra .2 sec in the 0-60 time. Subaru, as usual, is bucking the trend. Personally, I'm glad for it because it makes my car faster on an autocross course.

you should also consider you'll never stop at 60mph exactly when running against another car. I'm not sure if 6sp would require extra shift for 1/4 mi vs. 5sp BUT I think it will still benefit you. it would be a big advantage to gain several hundred rpm per up-shift. Unless, of course, if youre in a torque monster, then you dont have to worry about low rpm
personally, i dont like the tall ratio in WRX. it makes me feel like i'm driving a truck! (i used to own a Miata ...3k rpm in top gear @ 60mph)

from all the reading i did, i too agree it is more of a case
flex issue that causes the gears to jump out of its place.
its hard to believe that the gears could physically sheer off
its hub since 1-5th all rotate together and in gear all the time.
i am sure there are claims for defective gears, but the
occurance is much less and the physical damage to the
gear seems to be different.
it seems many wrx'ers are starting not to drop the
clutch on 1st so we hear less 1st gear damage, but they
continue to engage 2nd too abruptly and cause the similar
case flex and end up breaking 2nd gear...
I think the biggest issue is that since the gear ratio's are
so far apart between 1st and 2nd people tend to get too
anxious waiting for the spin down and just force it into 2nd.
i bet with the RA gears you dont have to wait as long as our
USDM ratio's that people do not get over anxious and no longer
need to slam it into 2nd.
