Best wrx gear oil?

did a search, didnt find what I wanted plus the search was out dated. As of now I am looking at a Valvoline hgh performance 75w90 with 1 qt Pennzoil Synchromesh. I have that "common" 1st gear grind. Any other reccomendations? or a poll on what everyone is running would be nice too

I just switched from Mobil 1 75w90 to Redline Lightweight Shockproof (75w90NS in the rear diff) and noticed a GIGANTIC improvement. Synthetics tend to be too slippery for our transmissions and cause grinding and hard shifting, but the Redline helped with that a ton. I haven't had a single grind since I switched to it. Plus it's blue and neat looking. You can get it from SubaruParts.com. It's kinda pricey, but worthwhile.

I'm not a fan of Redline gear oil. I'm ran Motul Gear 300 oil in my RS and I'm switching to it on my WRX.

I'm running valvoline 75w 90 and I love it, it's a world of difference, (might also be because the only thing I can compare it with is stock fluid after 30k miles).

Me too. I switched to redline at about 20k, started grinding and had my tranny replaced at 25k under warranty. techs said really for tranny fluid dino is the way to go. i've been running valvoline 75w90 since then and I have 86xxx on the odo and it shifts like it did up to going with redline.

Valvoline gear oil *by itself* was horrible for my tranny.
It made my gears stick in the cold, etc.
Mixed in some syncromesh and its great now.
Never sticks no matter how cold, never grinds.

I believe my current mix is something along the lines of 1/3 synchromesh, 2/3 valvoline.
This is with a 03 wrx transmission.

I think I may tinker with redline shockproof for my next change though.

I'm running the MOTUL synthetic gear oil and it's been working beautifully. However, I don't abuse my gears or shifter.

Sf Mtl-r

I would like to vote for SF MTL-R. Switched to Swepco 201 80w-90 after 15k miles on stock fluid. Am now on SF MTL-R and it's the best so far. Factory spec'd GL-5 75w-90 that provides the right protection to the helical gears under severe conditions. No grind at all.

according to nasioc, putting RP in the tranny is like the nail in the coffin, many users reported very quick syncro death after royal purple.

Ive had great results with generic non-synthetic 'Sta-Lube' 75w90 gear oil. No 1st gear grinds, and can shift into first at 20-25mph with proper shift techniques, revmatching, double clutch
