on the 240sx forums someone called REDLINE and redline told them not to use shockproof oil in trannys with syncros because it makes them go out somehow, i dont know why but i would watch out on using it because redline oil said themselfs not to use it with syncros, 240sx owners dont car what they say and love it but i have a box in my room of tranny, diff and engine oil and dont know if i want to use the tranny fluid.

Another Motul Gear 300 user (trans and rear diff) - has been just fine for me.
On the Redline shockproof - from the product descriptions I have read, it sounds like they have a particulate of some sort in the oil - if so, that would be very hard (abrasive) on the synchro's - they should work really well, but will also wear much more quickly than normal. I have never read any posts on transmissions killed with the shockproof, though (lots of people whining about the 75w90NS, though... I shied away from redline because of that - even though I had been very happy with the Redline MT90 I had in my previous car)

I'm using Oberon F808 80W-90 in my JDM STi tranny and diff. I've got about 5000 miles of hard driving (circuit and drag) and so far this stuff rocks. Shifts alot smoother and alot quieter than anything else I've used. It's pretty expensive at 50.00/liter but worth every penny. I had never heard of it in the US, but it's very popular here in Japan.

What do the rally cars use? It wouldn't really matter since its a completely different tranny and a different drivind manner and there is really no clutch. But it seems like if the oil is good enough for rally cars then it should be a god one.

Hey I was just wondering who else has tried GM Synchromesh, as a cocktail or for topping off the OEM fluid. I'm considering topping off my OEM fluid with a little GM Synchromesh but I wanted to make sure no one had any bad experiences. So far it doesn't seem so but I just wanted to make a check. I don't know if I should even bother though, 1st gear is a bit of a b1tch to shift into but I RARELY get any grinding (only when the tranny is really cold). Just thought Synchromesh might make getting into first a tad easier and reduce wear on my synchros, what do you guys think?

i use mobil 1 in both, but i "cut" the tranny fluid with 33% pennzoil syncromesh fluid. it eliminates the "grind" issues with slippery synthetic MT fluid.

So upon further research I've discovered there are two "flavours" of GM synchromesh. One with an extra "friction modifier" added and a regular GM synchromesh. For those who tried synchromesh, what did you use? The friction modified fluid or the "regular" fluid? Someone asked about the part numbers, here they are:
GM Synchromesh Transmission Fluid: Part# 12345349
GM Synchromesh Transmission Fluid Friction Modified: Part #12377916
