After many hours of research, I changed my trans lube at 24k miles.
I used 2qt. regular 80w90 Valvoline dino GL5....1qt. Shockproof lightweight, and the remaider GM Synchromesh.
6k miles later, it shifts like better than butter....no grunches, or grinds unless you consider carless engagement on my part by not pulling it into gear far enough.
I WILL use this 'cocktail' again. I am very happy with the results.

I am trying out Redline Lightweight ShockProof Gear Oil. Funky bubblegum blue colored one.
So far so good. It supposed to help keeping the gears happy during "shocking" them with shifting.

I couldn't be happier with my trans now, and the couple people who I have let drive it thought I had a new trans installed.
It is a remarkable difference, even if I have to change it every 10k or 15k miles it would be well worth it

I'm running Motul Gear 300. It's been in for about 10k and it's been very good. I'm not a big fan of Redline due to it's molecular composition. It's a little thin for anything other than race cars.

first i had used it to top off the OEM fluid. it improved the 1st gear issue, even with only a few ounces of fluid added.
then, when i changed fluids at 10k, i went with 1/3 syncromesh, 2/3 mobil 1 synthetic. if i really rush 1st gear coming to a stop, i can initiate some grind, but 95% of the time a slow pressure will pop it right in, even while rolling at ~10 mph.

ww,
i picked it up at my local autozone. they had it right on the shelf, collecting dust.
not sure if you've got autozones in your neck of the woods, though.
i'd have to get back to you with the GM P#.
