Auto Tranny won't shift...
hello all. This is my first Subaru experience.
I just bought a '93 legacy automatic (FWD, not AWD) with 118K. It runs fine, but has problems shifting out of 1st gear. It will rev as high as I want to take it and never shift except for an occasional shift to second gear.
I've checked the tranny fluids and they are in the middle and seem fine. Is this something that sounds like it might be expensive? I'd like to fix it and get rid of my Taurus, but I don't want to invest much into fixing it. If I can't fix it cheaply I think the engine will be swapped into the Vanagon. I'd hate to do that though since it is in good condition otherwise ad I think I could get some good life out of it and find another engine donor.
Any help/suggestions are appreciated!
Thanks!
Aaron

Take a look over at http://bbs.legacycentral.org . It's my BBS, which tailors specifically to the first generation Legacy models.
It sounds like it will be expensive, as rebuilt transmissions are usually $1500+. I'd consider a 5MT swap, simply because they're cheaper and more reliable. Not having to deal with the AWD stuff would be nice too.
