Need advice
I already own a 94' WRX, and am looking at buying another one, same year and everything. Problem is, my current WRX is an automatic, the one I am looking at getting is MT. I dont want to remove all of my performance mods from the one I already have to swap to the one with the manual tranny (My current WRX is nicer anyways). I was looking into swapping the trannies instead. I think it should be a fairly easy (easy, as in "possible") job considering the cars are pretty much identical. If anybody has tried this already and can give me some pointers or shoot me a link to a site that has some info on this, I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks!

yeah i'm facing the same problem. my 93 impreza is already fully tricked out both interior and exterior(spent about 6/7grand on looks already) well now i'm going for performance and i have quite a list but my car is automatic so i wanna do a M/T swap. like the previous reply i figured if i have a parts car it shouldn't be that bad considering i'll have all those parts already on the parts car. i would jus get another car but i've invested so much already into this car that it jus wouldn't be worth sellin it jus to get a M/T so i'm goin with getting a parts car and havin my friend from the subaru dealership help me with the swap. then it's the EJ20 engine goin into it after that.

New info... might help
I got an estimate on the AT/MT swap from our local Japanese "performance" garage. They said the swap is "doable", but will still cost a lot in labor... $800 per car. (Mind you, these guys are the only game in town here, so if they want to overcharge for a job like this, they can easily get it.) The tranny mounts up the same, and the holes to mount the clutch pedal and reservoir are already cut in the firewall. The brake pedal will have to be shaved down or completely swapped too. The ECU needs to be swapped, and maybe the gauge cluster (because of the AT shift indicator between the Tach and Speedometer... not really necessary to change, but would probably be annoying to look at after you put the manual tranny in. Maybe this is only on Japan models, I am not sure.) If you have a friend who knows anything about transmissions, maybe he (or she.... chicks who know about cars are HOT!) could give you more insight as to what else you would need. As for myself, it would just be easier to find another WRX and swap all the aftermarket stuff since I installed it once already, and the second time will only be easier now that I have the knowledge. Or, I can just ditch this whole WRX project and buy this EVO 5 I saw last week. If I do, please dont hate me.

i have to agree, chick who know about cars are hot. i am concidering the same transplant in my 2000 2.5rs. i want the 6spd mt out of the sti, or a 6spd dogbox. either way the bigest problem i would face is the the ecu and clutch and accesories.
well, that and the fact that i am currently unemployed, kinda quit my mechanic job. money, i have to say, would be the hardest thing about this project.
