Aftermarket Clutch & Flywheel
I need some feedback. I have a 2000 2.5RS and have modded with bolt on upgrades. The Sube runs real strong for the work I've done to it. My OEM clutch is fine, however; I am toying with adding an aftermarket clutch and lightweight Flywheel. I am leaning toward the Cobb clutch and flywheel only because I used their products and liked their fit and finish and somewhere down the road would like to install Cobb heads and cam. What I would like to know is, what benefit should I expect from this clutch and flywheel installation and have you guys found it worth doing.

I know the feeling when you get a few bucks up and get the itch to spend it.
If you're not experiencing any problems with the stock clutch setup, keep it until it begins to slip or fail. I personally don't think that the benefits of a faster-revving lightweight flywheel are worth the sacrifice in smooth engagement of the clutch from a stop. There's no real power gain, other than the weight savings. Think of all the other components in the drivetrain that are reciprocating weight - wheels, transmission parts, diffs, axles, brake rotors, etc. These aren't directly connected to the motor but have to be accelerated/decelerated just the same. At least consider not changing out the flywheel until you have to change the OEM clutch.
Still, your clutch will eventually wear out or fail so I'm curious myself as to what other folks are using and are happy with.

If you plan on staying NA, or even a mild turbo kit, you cannot beat the Exedy clutch and flwyheel setup. Billet chromoly clutch, weighs around 13 lbs, clutch is 27% stronger than stock, all in a very affordable and complete package. For $800 shipped (from us), cannot be beat. As for the heads and cams......having used them before, save yur money...nowhere near worth the price of admission/installation without some serious other mods. Turbo is the best bang for the buck way to go for power on an RS.

I burnt my stock clutch out on my 98 2.5RS after 4 thousand miles of powershifting.(bought from owner of a local dealership with 28k) I turned to COBB tuning for new parts. I then preceeded to buy the pro street clutch and lightwieght flywheel setup. The setup actualy is a pro street clutch kit with presure plate from Advanced clutch technologies. The flywheel is a pretty lightwieght chromolly wieghin in @ 12.36lbs made by JUN.
Now....what do u expect to get from these 2 modifications?INSANE amount of control of your car. the feel for the car is absolutley amazing. BUT First thing i did when i got it from the shop is stall it 2 times.......the clutch engages in about .5inches from the floor!(before you wear it in) well anyway.....
you know how if you rev up your car(from a stop) and let off the clutch...the car launches but the clutch burns down the RPMs untill they match ? NO MORE....if you rev up your car to 4k....and let of....you WILL leave F O U R patches of rubber on the ground! this thing CLAMPS. and on the flwheel.....the stock flywheel wieghs somthing rediculous like 45 pounds. This creates an incredible amount of spinning inertia. Now...with your lihgtwieght flywheel wieghing only 12 pounts, it revs up and down ALOT faster. BUT it does not keep up the RPMs when u engage the clutch....therefor you have to give it more gass when letting off the clutch. This results in mutch greater control and strength. It takes a while to get used to this....but once mastered it is absolutly worth every penny =) o yea....DONT USE FACTORY engine and tranny mounts....I still have stock ones....and if u slam gears at redline....when you let off clutch again you can feel the whole engine go BANG.(even if perfectly rev matched)
