Advantages of an upgraded TC

I'm thinking of upgrading my torque converter to an ProTorque unit. What are the advantages of upgrading the TC, other than the higher stall speed? Does having a higher stall speed making daily driving more difficult?

I don't want to turn this into a 4EAT vs. 5MT thread, there's enough of those out there I'd really like to hear from people running upgraded automatics.

A high stall T/C will allow the engine to rev up higher before engaging. This will give the vehicle a totally differant feeling. To me, It actually makes it easier to drive on a daily basis. It's like slipping a manual clutch by allowing the engine to rev up higher. The engine/turbo will make more power and allow the vehicle to accelerate faster.

I'd recommend the upgrade to anyone that hates the "lag" when driving an auto.

Just make sure to run an ATF cooler and use some sythetic fluid as well.

Can someone explain exactly how it is possible that reducing the load on the engine (by making the TC less efficient at low speeds) makes it faster/ less laggy? Excuse my ignorance on the principles of operation of automatics, but frankly it's just not very useful info to me directly. [/end 4eat bashing]

The T/C will reduce the load and allow the engine to rev up higher before engaging. This happens at low RPM's not speed. So by allowing to the engine to rev higher, it's brought closer to the turbo/engine power band.
