9.5 lbs flywheel??

i brkoe my tranny, and the guy said u got a bent clutch, so, as I replace the clutch Im looking at flywheels also, I found this 9.5er (its called Fidanza Aluminum Flywheel heres the link http://www.fastwrx.com/finalflyw.html ), is that too light? i heard someone say not to go below a certain weight. what u guys think, would it have more potential to cause problems and rev faster, or will it just rev faster and faster?

also what would be a good clutch match for that?

From what I have heard it is not good to go with a very light flywheel, especially the Fidanza. I have heard horror stories where people who put it in got constant CELs. Stay away from Fidanza and go with something heavier ..... I've heard Exedy is good. Hope that helps

I too have heard of people getting CELs with too light of a flywheel. I believe it is a "misfire" code that they get. I also hear that if you put a lightened flywheel, as well as a lighter pulley you will get the same code.

I get misfires out the yinyang with the Vishnu Crankpulley,

but it doesn't cause the car to run in a limp mode at all... and if i clear the code with an obd2 censor it will disappear for a while until the next time the ecu see's something differen't with the firing.

But def go with a flywheel at least 12lbs, that is the common word which i have read

I believe that the stock on is about 18lbs (I think in a WRX) the exedy on is about 14 and i have a 9.5lb.....yes i have a cell and i don't really care cause it doesn't do anything to the car. The only down part about a flywheel like mine is that launching the car is hard as hell!!! If you like to come off the line hard then keep the stock one......if you want faster acc...out of the corner then go lighter

Stock, the flywheel weighs 26.5lbs. I had the Fidanza on my 03 WRX. The CEL was constantly on b/c of having no cats. I would get the cel checked once a week to make shure that the only prob was the 02 readings. And it was, never had a misfire or any cel due to the lightend flywheel. The only downfall to it is having to shift quicker. I reccomend it.

the reason you cant go to light is because of the timing belt
the belt doesnt have the tension needed to keep the belt from slipping when the engine is revved that fast

so this means if you go too light and dont increase tension you will have valve to piston contact which is almost certain engine death

i just installed a exedy 14.3lb flywheel, an ACT HD clutch, an uppipe, vishnu IC hoses, and a 6-MT .... no problems at all with launching, CELs, or anything.
i can't wait till I get it all broke in so I can play, but it's ALOT more responsive
