5th gear pops back to neutral
Hi. I have a 2002 WRX Wagon TXS Stage II. I kind of enjoy driving hard but don't go draggin over a year now. Just the other day the 5th gear popped back to neutral...Any ideas of what's going on? Should i get a new transmision? Puerto Rico.

you may have the same problem that 2000-2001 rs had the nut on the main shaft would loosen and cause 5th/rev slider to move toward to rear of trans. causing poor engagement into 5th, as you lift up on throttle it will pop into neurtal. you need to remove the transfer case and inspect the main shaft nut.

I just dealt with that this weekend. What commonly happens is the nut on the main shaft backs off because it wasnt torqued or staked propperly. It sucks. If you are bold enough to take your transfer case off you will see the two shafts. the bigger bolt will probably be really loose. Loose enough to take off with your fingers. this picture kinda sucks but you get the idea. That bolt on the top shaft more then likely has to be replace then torqued and staked. getting the transfer case back on sucks though. currently struggling with that. but my nut is nice and tight and staked again
