5MT rebuilding costs
I have 2 US 5MT's that my WRX swallowed and spit back out, haha. One is missing a 3rd gear and another one is missing the 2nd gear. I want to get them rebuilt, but have no clue how much it is going to cost.
Any ball part figure?
Anyone done it?

Alex, are you talking about just a basic rebuild (fix broken stuff with stock type stuff), or a better rebuild (replace cheap stuff with better stuff along with replacing broke stuff with better parts)
For the trannys I've dealt with (No import ones, just domestic) If you can tear down an engine, you can do a manual tranny yourself. In that case, I'd say $150 to fix broke stuff, $300 to do it beefed up. If you don't think you can rebuild the tranny and want to pay someone to do it for you, $400 and $700. Again, you are asking for an import tranny, so I would add $100 bucks for the estimates that I gave. But a tranny is a tranny, manual ones are not really that difficult.

i agree that the auto is harder and more expensive. manual aren't as hard to rebuild as everyone thinks although if you run into one requiring all the gears to be pressed off/on and can become a pita pretty fast! that being said, i think you can get them rebuilt for a reasonable price yet i feel Arcanum's prices are rather low.

Dick hit it on the head. Unfortunately, the Subaru manual tranny is one of "those" trannies. You get to remove a couple parts off each of the two shafts and then press everything off together. "They" took what makes tranny rebuilding hard and incorporated it twice
If you can take everything apart, Alex, then bring the whole press-off mess to your local, friendly dealership (don't you have a good relationship with the Marin dealer?) and have them press it off, then you can reassemble everything with the working parts (assuming you have enough good condition parts to make one tranny). Make sure everything is very clean - no metal shavings between parts, etc. Then get it all organized and ready and have them press it back together...

Mine was 700 in parts and with labor added in, it was like 1,300.
they charged like 250 for taking down the tranny and another 180 to open and replace parts plus some crap!
Not even a loaner car
