1st Gear Grind???
I have an '03 WRX with 18k+ miles & some minor modifications done ( GT-Spec V2 Headers w/Up-pipe, Invidia Bellmouth downpipe, HKS Carbon-Ti catback exhaust system, 18x7.5 Wheels, Tein Type Flex coilover system(2.50" drop), Cusco swaybars, Cusco strutbars, Cusco lower arm bar, Perrin Endlinks, Perrin Positive Steering System, Energy Suspension Hyper Flex System, STi Control Arms, STi Lateral Link Set, STi Trailing Rod Set).
Here's the problem: on certain occasions, when I shift from Neutral to First with the clutch fully depressed the tranny grinds. This had happened wether the car is at a dead stop or rolling. Another thing I noticed is that if I reversed and I immediately shift it to First gear without waiting for the car to stop rolling the gear grinds almost everytime.
I never ran the car hard: drag launch, powershift, etc. I had some highway races before but nothing that will certainly damage the or cause the gear(s) to grind.
Any feedback would help...

This issue of first gear grinding at a dead stop is the only thing that stands in my way of a new Legacy...
Good luck though i think the techs themselves will need to drive it to rule out um "driver error" so to speak. Don't quote me on that though.

It would be difficult to get it taken care off I think with the mods unless you get a friendly neighborhood dealer. I have the same problem now after changing my gear oil with regular Valvoline gear oil 80w90. I am thinking I may need to add GM Synchromesh at least to see if that is able to take care of it.
Good luck by the way.
