1st 2nd gear shift
just curious...I am having trouble with the 1st to 2nd gear shift. cant seem to get the timing, smoothness of the shift down. Either the car boggs down because i wait until the revs drop to where they should be. or my car bucks because the rpms have dropped to where they should be.. Someone told me to give it gas while letting the clutch out. However that is even worse because it raises the rpms when i want them to drop. Can everyone let me know what they do for there 1st to 2nd gear shift? What do you usually rev too? and if you got any tricks for driving smooth, driving fast, etc....thanx for your help guys

Car Info: Mazda Protege '02 (Wishing protege has AWD and a H6 twin turbo)
Depends on your model.
I found the 5 speed almost rediculously easy to smoothly shift.
Of course it was also modified and had short shifter + bushings
The STI was more diffulcult to shift smoothly, maybe i got used to the 5 speed *shrugs*
I eventually just blipped the throttle a lil between shifts and it seemed to smooth out.

Is this your first manual car?
With enough clutch pedal control you should be able to smoothly shift without using gas. Or, just be lazy like I usually am and give it some juice while working the pedal.

2nd stick shift car, had a vw gti before. I do have the short shifter in my wrx. Its like sometimes its picture perfect smooth. But other times when i try to get moving fast and accerlate hard in first. I have to wait like a half a second for the rpms to drop down. If i give it gas it adds to the jerk forward.
