06 WRX transmission noise in 2nd and 4th

Guys,
I have an 06 WRX with a 5 speed. From day one I noticed a weird noise that sounded like wastegate flutter at around 2500-3000 rpm under lite acceleration but only in 2nd and 4th gear. The car now has 8,000 miles and the noise seems to be a little louder but still only in 2nd and 4th gear.

I know it's the trans and not wastegate flutter because if I hold down the clutch pedal while going about 50mph and put in 3rd the noise is gone. If I shift to 4th I hear the noise. If I put it 5th the noise is gone.

I brought this up with the dealer when the car had about 2500 miles and they said it was normal. Now it seems to be getting louder so I will be going back to the dealer again.

Just wanted to know if anyone else had a similar experience.

Can anyone tell me if their 06WRX manual transmission makes the same sound in 3,4 and 5th?

Here is how to check:
1) Go about 50-60MPH
2) Depress clutch and keep it down
3) put in 3rd (keep clutch down) listen to sound
4) Put in 4th then 5th. All the time with the clutch down

Do you hear about the same sound in each gear?

I would really apreciate any input

Thanks

Talking

The dealer could hear the noise I was talking about but said other cars also had the same noise including the 07 WRX's.

I then discovered I could get rid of the noise by adding some sound proofing material under the shifter boot.

Seems the noise is normal gear noise that, in my case, was more pronounced in 2nd and 4th.

This noise can also be easilly mistaken for wastegate flutter so be mindful of this.

Problem solved

I would assume that it means the wastegate is opening and closing repeatedly. Maybe not all the way, but more towards either opened or closed. Might be wrong though, just a guess .

It just would redirect the flow of the exaust gases, making slight noise.
