Angry 06 tranny broke twice

Hey I bought a brand new wrx in feb. at 4300 miles I was driving down town at 25 mph and i down shifted from third to second and third gear blew up. took it back to the dealer and Subaru would not cover it they claimed abuse. but the dealer covered it under a good will claim. But they said they would not do it again. so now the car has 8600 and third gear is out again. once again I don't drive it hard. and i don't bang through the gears. about the only hard driving i do is on the interstate. no launches. anyhow. I keep hearing that the 5mt are weak. and to go with the sti tranny. what do you guys think. I'm talking to the dealer about fixing it again but I know I probably won't get anywhere. which is Bs. I don't know what to do?? and yeah the car is and always has been bone stock..

ouch

2 times. that blows. That sucks that subaru will not cover it. 8#### and two blown tranny's. I dont know what to say. If you;re a ****ty driver, sounds like you need to invest in some PpG's gearset.

you need to get the cryo treated gears. You can get a fully rebuilt tranny with cryo treated RA gears, new synchros and everything for I think about $2600 shipped from www.iaperformance.com

I dont know where the rebuilt ones are on the site, so you'll have to contact them if you want to go that route. I have one thats about to go in but I bought it used

thanks fellas but whats the difference from the ppg gears and the ra gears?? I have found the ra gears for lots cheaper but thats just the gears I can rebuild my tranny. SO WHAT ARE THE PPG GEARS AND WHY SO EXPENSIVE ARE THEY THE STRAIGHT CUT GEARS ??????

Don't lean on your shifter. Don't leave your hand on the shifter. Once you've shifted gears leave it alone until the next shift. My two cents.

STi tranny ftw...

btw, are you rev matching when downshifting, or just letting the clutch out?

PPG's are for the most part indestructible.

http://www.ppgearbox.com.au/whyppg.htm

They are quite possibly the best gearbox upgrade you can get. A STi trans is great but it involves a lot of swapping and some waiting to find a good buy. Both ways can contain some downtime and it really depends on what you want to do with the car.

Also, how did you downshift into 2nd and 3rd blow up??

Yea, sorry. I don't log on here too much. I was doing some transmission research. Seeing how many 06 owners have had problems on here. Read all the problems on NASIOC already.

18K miles here, never had one problem. Never launched it, but some spirited shifting on the on ramp, but nothing close to abuse. Pretty much always rev match before downshifting. Gotten better with heel-toe after driving the wrx. Always play with the clutch to ensure smooth shifts.
