03 wrx 1st gear problem

Hi, i ran a search and came up with some info on my question but i want to know a bit more. I have 10,000 miles on my car and just recently my Wrx doesnt want to shift into first gear from a complete stop at red lights. Its happend like 4 times in 2 weeks so far.Its really annoying, i engage the clutch fully, The only abuse on the tranny is one 4k rpm launch i didnt even drop the clutch, just a quick release and that was around 2k miles ago. I hope the problem doesnt persist, what can i do to fix it, Should it take into the dealer mabye they will fix it b/c of warrantee My mods include mostly suspensiion progress spring, cusco front and rear sway bars and a custom made stright pipe axel back. please help!

Sounds like a bad synchro. From your description of things, it should be covered.

Oh, i see. I wonder why the 1st grear syncro went bad? I hope its not b/c of my driving. I drive really smooth shift 95% of the times at 3k and always get out of 1st really smooth with out over reving. So that wouldnt make sense. I guess ill have to take it to the dealer to have them replace it. I hope they dont ***** and try to not cover me cause that would suck alot.

I've always done this too in all the MT cars I've had. I haven't noticed any problems going into 1st on my '03 WRX, but I've always had the habit of doing what kevster has described.

Change your fluid! I have an 03 , had that intermittent "will not go into first'. Its seems a common issue with the subes.Synchros just hangs up.Most of the top tuners changed to synthetic fluid.I used Neo Synthetic gear oil.It was a night and day difference ,much smoother engagement, lessened the noise,I have'nt had an issue for 4k miles. Now obviously If you abuse your tranny often then you're going to get wear and tear!
