Ice on Intercooler????

chill the intercooler and remove the bag of ice right before you stage....i've seen people do this......not really sure how much it helps.....but i would think it has some effect. i've been told you really have to chill the intercooler.......leave the ice on for at least 30 minutes, no less than that!!!!

you cant run with ice on intercooler because you car cant leak any water on track
nos freezing works about 10 to 50 hp
you may want to look at nx n-cooler system i personally do
not like it if you wait a few months i will hopefully have built a better system talk later

I use ice on my TMIC, intake and TB and anything else that cooler=better. Yeah it does help...I couldn't break from 13.9 all night until I did this and I pulled lower 60' and 13.8 all night after that and removal of the pass. side fog light for even more air.
Oh yeah...DON'T leave it on the IC when u go up to the tree...it's against most places policies to have any liquids spilling onto track surfaces anyways but yeah...it'd hurt ya more anyways.

Last time I checked it was against all tracks policies to have fluids leaking on the track. And trust me if you try the tech guy will tell you to remove it before the run. And if you decide not to listen to him you will find a very unhappy result. Because chances are your ice back will rip going down the strip and pee all over the lane. Not only will you find an unhappy track crew but whats worse (and more dangerous) an very unhappy crowd of waiting racers. The lines are long enough without someone doing something like that.

It can greatly help you fight heat soak. Haven't tried it on the wrx, but on my TII it helped drop my times from 15.1 to a 14.73. Not bad for a car with 138K. I've purchased a garden sprayer and add ice water. i dump some ice on the IC and the occasionally spray the ice water over the ice. Helps out quite a bit. I also spray some on the radiator at the strip and autocross, to keep temps low.

You gus know keyboard cleaner. CO2 in a hand held bottle. That thing frosts up pretty quick when spraying it. Wonder how that would do to chill the I/C before the race? Cheaper than a kit if you dont run often. Takin my Grand National to the track this weekend, ill try it and get back to you. You can also use it to freeze bolts so they shrink and it's easier to get em off.

if you're going the handheld sprayer route, i wouldn't use keyboard cleaner. go to an electronics store, and buy the stuff used for keeping circuts cool when they're being tested. i forget what it's called, but it'll chill things down to like -140F. when i was a kid, i'd use it to freeze snails and then shatter them like you'd do with liquid nitrogen.
that said, i think icing the intercooler before a run would work pretty damn well, since during short runs the i/c works more like a heat sink than a heat exchanger. for permanet use, a CO2 sprayer would be your best bet. colder than water, cheaper than NOS, and readily available.
