Sigh... the point these other guys are trying to make is that it's not an EJ20DET. Usually it's just "EJ20" since all the ones we'll ever see are turbo, but there are variations, mainly:

EJ20G
EJ207
EJ20K
EJ205

Search for those codes and you'll come up with tons of info on the differences. Tip: limit the search to the Impreza and STi engine forums.

The EJ20 can vary from 215bhp to 320+ with little or no modding, depending on what you get. Some versions have 500+hp potential with turbo and fuel upgrades, some won't do much better than 300 at the crank.

Most "JDM EJ20 swaps" if not specified are V7/V8 JDM STi motors. These are semi-closed deck, usually come with a VF30 or 34 and are the best all-around swap in terms of performance, price and potential. they are also the most commonly imported these days.
