i got a quote from Kevin at Garage Tuning for $2000 installed. Finelineimports.com lists a auto to manual conversion for $1500. DIY is probably cheaper, but I'm having a hard time finding parts....

sounds like thats for either the parts or the labor, not both...if it is for both, take it and run.
i.e. Est. of Parts (assuming WRX parts)
$1,200 5 speed (used)
$200 Driveshaft (used)
$350 Rear Diff (used)
$300 M/T ECU (used)
$350 M/T Pedal Assembly (used)
--------
$2,400 Parts est.
*remember you will also need it rewired and installed.

you guys obviously dont know where to shop.
heres what i have come up with with serious scavenging if i decided to do the swap on my car.
5spd AWD Legacy Tranny - 100
M/T Legacy ECU - $15
Driveshaft - $50 (assuming i cant use current one)
Rear Diff - Use original OEM diff (open diffs are slower in straight lines, but better for teh twisties., might need a new pinion gear to mate w/ newer driveshaft assuming you need that drishaft int he first place)
Pedals - (unkown this is that hard part to find)
Total: $265 + pedals and other misc parts, lines and ect.
you just need to find the right junkyard.

$1,200 is to expensive? Those parts listed above are from some old Legacy, as a business man and consumer myself, I always assume the customer wants good/newer parts...but what do I know. Let me know where you get them cheaper, and not the $100 garbage ones...Last time I checked most people are interested in the ones that actually work and weren't/aren't abused.
