05 USDM RS 251 to 03 JDM WRX 20K (pic heavy)
Good day Iclub! It is time to start making up a thread for my 2005 RS to JDM EJ20K swap.
Here you will find lots of pictures of my next big project. dropping in JDM 20K into RS (motor, ECU, wiring, sensors, I/M, etc, etc) A little history on the car (05 RS) and the motor (JDM)
The 20K:
I am currently working on swapping a buddy's 98 RBP GC8. Taking out his JDM 20K and swapping in 205. Despite various methods on making the 20K street /CA smog legal, he opted to just go to USDM. He will giving me entire motor swap in payment ()
The 251:
I just bought the recently actually. Was surfing the interwebz and came across JR Imperial's busted 05. Was such a deal that i had to buy it. Plus, now i can keep 03 reliable and 251 and have fun with 20K. The car came with 18 Miro's, Megan coliovers, NRG wheel, AP, and plast dipped camo. 189,000 on ODO and original timing belt on car!!! lucky for me, i have spare motors and trannys lying around looking for a new home
My Plans for RS20K:
My plan for this RS20K swap is to turn it into a pure Auto-X/track beast! Going to strip most of interior, build a roll cage, brace the F* out of the chassis, eventually upgrade to $$$$$$$ coilovers, build myself a PAR JDM STI 5 speed gearset. (still debating between PAR 5 speed and OEM 6 speed)
So, lets start with pics of the 05 when I bough it, shall we?

seriously. i had to literally sit down, and write out how many Tahoe trips id sacrifice if i bought the 05. Needless to say, at the time (few weeks ago) mother nature helped with my decision. LOL. just tooo good a deal to pass up. It should be a fun one!

Nice! Good luck on the build. For Autox, I would think 5 speed personally but I know thats debatable with pretty much everyone. You would save weight and you could run most tracks in 2nd with little shifting. Is this going to be a street driven car at all or trailer car?

I hear you. At this point its either shorter gears with more pull out of corners or top end. Me, personally want my head glued to the headrest pulling out of corners, hence why i may just run PAR STI 5 speed. It will be street driven a few days out of the month (to and from tracks/events, and mountain runs every so often. I still have my 03 setup for handling (my weekend fun )

Valentines Day Bump!!!
I wanted to ask the general consensus about DBW and DBC throttle systems. I understand how they work and what year and models they came in (05 RS). My question to you is, what system would be more beneficial? EJ20k is DBC and RS is DBW. Ill be using JDM ECU with swap. Should i just but pedal, cable, mount, etc and just swap to DBC? i personally like it a bit more, for that guaranteed contant control. A lot of the threads I have been reading say its not worth it. But with a DBC ECU and engine, thoughts?

Progress bump! Other projects were put on hold yesterday and i had nothing better to do. Sooo...I retimed 05 with old RS and WRX idlers, tensioner and RS belt. I wanted to see just how bad it was. Wouldnt even start due too so low of compression! I have graveyard or engines and parts and 05 motor already shot, so why not. LOL Here are the pics of carnage and vid of attempted start up after being retimed.
I also started to strip interior for roll cage and make room for any systems i decide to run
