TGV = Tumbler Generator Valves. For reference, here's a pic from Gimmspeed.com:

They are located between the intake manifold and the head. Basically these butterfly valves are closed during cold startup to help with emmissions. Then afterwards they try to open all the way, but don't neccesarily do. It's a very restrictive piece that our US WRXs have in them.

Now, if you're doing a bigger turbo...>20G...then by all means, delete away.

But to say "tgv deletes give you XXX more power" is wrong.
I saw a dyno graph of a Stg 2 WRX putting out 10+whp afterwards. Of course the bigger the turbo, the higher the gains from this mod.

Not that I know of. Maybe the whole CEL thing from them not being there anymore, but your tuner or form of EM should be able to fix that.

Reduction in idle quality is the main complaint.

Never seen gains that high on a street car.
Big turbo & higher flow rates, maybe.

Just finished up a set for the 04-06 STI. Let me know if any of you guys want them and I can bring them to the next meet or I'm going to toss them up on eBay within the next couple days.

Also, if you dont have EM that will clear the CEL, just leave the tiny TGV motors wired in and you won't have a CEL.

Not true.

For 2002 -2007 WRX/STi models, the ecm provides output to the motors & needs to see input from the position sensors.
Leaving everything plugged in will not prevent multiple codes from being tripped.

There are two choices:

1. Properly tuning the ecm & turning off the correct DTCs.

or

2. Leaving the butterfly rod installed.

BTW...your work looks very good. What grit flapper are you finishing with?

Sorry, I ment leaving the rods hooked up under the hood. But I'm pretty sure all major forms of EM and map-modding programs have an option to turn off this CEL though.

Thanks. I finish with a couple different sized 80 grit flappers. They give a smooth texture, but rough enough so the air turbulence is still good.
