This was originally a project that was 100% Subaru....don't believe me? I used to for Subaru and got the chance to see the original version of this thing. It was a prototype called the R1E or something like that. It was originally built and designed by FHI as not a hybrid, but a full electric car. The idea was to make an urban car that is small and easily maneuvered and easy to park. It is battery powered and desinged to achieve 60mph and travel a distance of 50 mi before needing recharging. The catch to it was Subaru working on building the tech needed to allow this thing to be easily recharged. The amazing thing about this tech was that it would be able to be plugged into a wall outlet and recharged in just an hour. Pretty amazing...I guess it never became buildable on a mass scale. Oh well, looks like it's not gonna be the RE1 shell filled with prius lameness. ha
