what is the citation? depending on the citation will determine whether or not you can get it signed off. Also, if you have a catless dp, you won't be able to get it signed off. Technically the SPT catback is within dB levels of legal without any other exhaust modification.

I disagree, the only thing that makes a catback legal is if it is quiet enough to meet the dB levels of like 95 or something like that. You can get any aftermarket exhaust as long as you keep the factory cats and the exhaust isn't too loud. Also, the cop can still give you a modified exhaust ticket, citation # 27151(b) and you just have to pay a fine of like 200 or so without being able to get the ticket signed off.

Any aftermarket exhaust is illegal for your vehicle. Must be replaced with the OEM exhaust if damaged. Under 95db is correct; which is the standard for every "OEM" exhaust.

People mix up the fact, just because it's under 95db is okay.

note: Any aftermarket exhaust is illegal; unless it is certified under C.A.R.B

To answer the OP question. Depending on the citation whether or not you have been state ref or not, assuming not otherwise you would have stated that. Go to a mellow, relax city like Alameda or something close by that have laid back officers, they will sign off on the ticket without too much hassle. I don't know how it is out there in Modesto, but I can tell you my friend got a modified exhaust fix it ticket in San Francisco and got it signed off in Alameda with no problem. He didn't even have to change the exhaust just revved it up for the officer and he thought it was quiet and just signed it off.

There is no such thing as a CARB legal exhaust. There are several laws that go against eachother when it pertains to exhausts. Depending on the officer and his mood, he can give you any of them. Now you can get your AFTERMARKET exhaust dB tested but you still can get a modified exhaust ticket even if it isn't loud, because you arent getting a loud exhaust ticket, simply a modified exhaust ticket. I've gone through this multiple times.

the law reads "it is illigal to modify an exhaust to amplify sound" so technically you can't even install an spt because it amplifies the sound( the 95 db law only applies to domestic vehicles ie mustangs, camaros, corvettes and chevy trucks) then again who am i to say? This thread has been done and done again bottom line is someone screwed it up for the rest of us by smoking an officer off duty in their nissan, if we all rode harleys we could ride around with straight pipes and get thumbs up instead of tickets!

Ok here goes this has been asked and debated so many times its sickening. When it states "amplify sound" it is refering to items such as glass packs, whistlers, etc.... You can legally put anything resembling a muffler on your vehicle as long as it is serviceable. Yes hy HKS carbon TI is perfectly LEGAL here in California, as long as it is under 95 DB. Yes I do come from a LEO background and yes I have fought and won this with a high flow DP.
