I really don't know what you mean by 'die out up top fast'. I am tuned on a VF34 with walbro pinks fmic turboback etc. on 91. Tuned by EqTuning. Power increases all the way to redline. Hits 281AWHP at 7000 RPM's. So it doesnt necessarily die out up top. However, if you're wanting a higher horsepower setup then you'll want to go with a bigger turbo.
For street use running on 91 octane, though, nothing beats a JDM or USDM VF series turbo for a great combo of driveability and broad power.

Well good for you.
When you get a bigger turbo you'll know.

When a turbo 'dies out up top' it refers to the fact that the power curve on the dyno chart flattens out toward the higher RPM's. Depending on the mixture of one's turbo to one's injectors, displacement, etc. - any turbo car flatten out.
However, there are certain turbos that are notorious for flattening out because even a stock setup maxes out on them. The VF34 is not one of them. And I never plan on owning a bigger turbo. My next step will be keeping my VF34 and going E85. All the power to those, though, that enjoy the massive top end of FP Reds, GT30's etc. I've been in such cars and they're quite a rush.
