why buy an Evo...just a thought
the motor in an evo is a 4G63, the same motor thats in an Eclipse gst or gsx (an Eclipse GSX...hmm... all wheel drive......same motor as an Evo.......about 1/3 of the price these days)

The Evo has...NEW! I mean seriously the eclipse is a great car...for dragging and that's about it. Plus it looks like a terd on wheels.
The Evo has brakes, suspension, seats, FMIC, four doors, better looks.

Well the WRX actually shares the same engine as the SAAB 9-3 and the SAAB wagon. Its actually to help keep SAAB from going under but if you ask me... it's like trying to keep a brick from sinking. Sorry if I offended any SAAB owners on the suby forums (but their designs just seem a bit too old fashioned)

The EVO is a great car. It's reasonably priced (if the dealer doesn't gouge you) and the performance is great. I like the STi because it has some really nice features but it costs more than the EVO. If I were in the market for a performance car today, I would seriously consider the EVO RS with the Urban Jungle package (a/c, power windows and locks).

why buy an EVO when you can buy a rex...Turboback, uppipe, VF30, injectors, fuel pump, fuel rails, a little tuning and voula... you've still got the good ol' solid as a rock EJ20T to boot! Dont get me wrong, the EVO is a great car, so is the STI. but the wrx powerplant has been tested and proven to last and perform.

So has the 4G63. The Evo motor is nothing short of bulletproof (as long as you don't break it in on the synthetic they put in it at the factory). I personally would choose an Sti over an Evo if I had to, but I have nothing negative to say about the Evo, except for the ****ty interior, poor dealer service history, and I don't like the looks. However, I didn't really even like the looks of my RS when I bought it, and now I think it's one of the best looking cars ever. Anyways, here's why:
-Sti 6 speed. best gearbox of all time IMHO.
-Torquier motor. Both engines have similar power potential, which matters more than stock power levels. I prefer the torque from the 2.5 over the revs from the 2.0
-The Evo is a Mitsubishi, the STi is a Subaru, and I have an unfounded sense of loyalty. I bleed World Rally Blue, it's true!
-I prefer top mount intercoolers to front mounts, even though I wouldn't characterize the Evo as "laggy". Only compared to an STi really.
-Stock handling is not a huge concern to me. Suspension is fun to mod. The Evo suspension is damn good though. Not worth changing unless you are running competitively on the track. I firmly believe I can make an STi the handling equal of the Evo however.
