Call me crazy, but I believe Subaru designs and builds their own motors. I hope this doesn't come as a shock to anyone.

If you can afford to put a Porsche engine into a Suby, buy a Porsche.

True. Proprietary design, not a copy of other four and six-cylinder boxer engines from Porsche or other engine.

Porsche engines are designed as rear engine mounted, with the transaxle mounted in front of the engine. It's likely way too much trouble to adapt this engine to the Subaru front-mounted drivetrain, especially considering the cost of a Porsche engine, and that's assuming the 6-cylinder Porsche engine would fit into the engine bay of a Subaru sedan.

Now and again, though, some motivated individual will swap a Subaru boxer engine into an old Porsche 914, with pretty good results. This is a swap that makes sense, since the 914 came with a 4-cylinder boxer engine.

Thumbs up

I was wondering about the engine manufacturer because i work for porsche and the company that builds the motors is Kolbenschmidt.
I was wondering where could i get pics of and specs for the subaru internals. I just want to compare the two designs.

Thanks for your input on porsche swaping.

I know some GM motors are manufactured by United Motors as well as Toyotas. Possibly Fuji Heavy Duty Industries might be responsible for the manufacturing of Subaru motors, just like United is responsible for some of GM's motors. Any have an idea?
PS- I think Fuji HD Indust. owns Subaru but I could be wrong.
