Vegas-Mojave Desert bargain trip
You can stay in the Las Vegas and Mojave Desert area for as little as $19 per night by staying at one of the two casino hotels at Jean, Nevada. I've done this three times during the last 10 years because it gives me a good place to stay at rock-bottom rates... allowing me to spend the days driving/hiking/climbing in the Mojave Desert. If you see a car commercial filmed out in the middle of the desert with miles of empty road running to the horizon and only your car in sight...that's usually the Mojave. There's some fantastic driving there, both blacktop and gravel.
These two casino hotels at Jean are a twenty-minute drive west of Las Vegas. Not far from all of the glitz and glitter. Jean is just freeway exit 12 off of hwy 15 and litle else. Also 45 minutes east of the Mojave National Preserve and it's a day trip to Death Valley.
The $19 rooms are neat and clean but nothing fancy. The food is good and not expensive. Lots of slots and tables. The trick is to make revervations online at least 3 days in advance, usually for the off-nights: Sunday through Wednesday.

I'm leaving tomorrow for three days of hiking and driving. It's about an 9 hour drive for me from Sacto/Bay Area. And I'm paying $57 for the three-night stay!
