Toyota, Subaru to develop sport's car
"Take the best of Toyota and best of Subaru and what do you get? If you said an all-wheel-drive hybrid sporting a huge hood intake and the road feel of warmed-over lasagna, you're way off. According to Automotive News, Fuji Heavy Industries, parent of Subaru, and benefactor Toyota are working up a new sports car to be sold under the Toyota brand. The car, which could supplant the discontinued MR2, would likely sell for around 17 grand and come with an engine displacing less than two liters. That powerplant would be hooked to Subaru's symmetrical all-wheel-drive gear. Expected release date is 2010. No word on powerplant, but we know more than a few Scoobieheads gunning for the boxer four."

The MR-2 turbo was a nice idea, but it was too heavy and who needs/wants t-tops, leather and all the other crap all but a handful came with? The MR-2 Spyder was also affordable where the previous gen was not. I wish the Spyder was as light but was available with a welded on hardtop, but alas it wasn't. Having it be a convertible allowed it to sell better since the girlies would want it too, so I won't complain about that.
Anyway, stop dissing the MR-2 Spyder/MR-S. It's one of the few true sports cars in our over-regulated age, and I applaud Toyota for making it. I wish there were a SpecMR2 class...

Give me a f'n break. People that complain about the MR-S don't know what a sports car should be, and/or have never driven one. The MR-2 Spyder is one of the best sportscars ever made. Just over 2100lb from the factory, awesome handling and adequate power in the right hands. Hands down my all time favorite car so far on a road course or back roads.
