Question suggestions for improving my '98 Forester's performacne

Hello all,
My wife has a '98 forester that she got from the show room floor back when the forester was brand new. She has regularly had it's scheduled mantiance done on it. Now the car/suv is now a little lagy in getting up to freeway speeds, the transistion between gears while accelerating is a little hard, and getting up to passing speeds can be hard. To top it off, our econimy is going down. it was getting about 20-22mpg and now it is getting 19-20mpg. Any suggestions?

Thank you in advance.
