Why are all of you so WORKED UP about how much power an SRT 4 can make?
Shoot, they're not even in our class and are wrong wheel drive.
SRT 4 belongs with Saturn Ion Red Line and Chevy Cobalt SS. The only people that associate Neons with Subies are the Dodge NEON owners that have pen!s envy because they realize that they bought a front wheel drive car that'll probably fall apart in about 3 years.
Don't get me wrong...it's got a lot of power but it's a NEON! N E O N!

No, he's exactly right. A SRT-4 is actually not impressive at all for the money, when compared to other American cars of its ilk; if your desire is to go fast in a dead straight line, you can get a used Z28 or SS Camaro and crank it up to 600 HP with about $10,000 total invested, and get RWD to boot. Regardless of the "Mopar" influence on the SRT-4. it is indeed built upon an economy chassis and does deserve to be compared to the Focus, Cobalt (Cavalier), Saturn Ion and Honda Civic FWD class. Among that class it stands out well, but certainly is not totally dominant. I've driven a Focus SVT that could certainly beat a stock SRT-4 in any situation.
As for the Mopar Stage 3, it certainly has decent numbers, but achieving that much power out of a 2.4-liter inline block is not some superhuman feat of engineering. Reading the description, I worry about fuel delivery issues.
Comparing RWD to AWD to FWD is a fruitless effort; each drive system entails entirely different driving mechanics and methods. AWD is an extremely poor choice for a drag car (25% or more of drivetrain power is lost as heat/friction); FWD is a poor choice for power over 350HP, because you begin to get wheel hop and uneven loading on launch. RWD makes for a great drag car, but may not serve a car well in twisties or uneven terrain. Each type of car has its specific optimal conditions and environment, obviously; those who bought an STI to street-race deserve the beating they will get; it makes about as much sense as buying a SRT-4 to climb Pike's Peak.

Wow, I love how people will bash a car they have never owned. I have owned both a subaru fxt and a srt-4. So far my experience with the subaru has not been as good as the srt-4. I am just glad that I am not as narrow minded as so many of the people who frequent these boards. That why they make so many different cars, so every one can find one they like. You go to the Civic forums they say every car but a honda is crap. You go to the mustang forums they bad mouth all the import cars by calling them rice. SOUND FAMILUR!

Totally different cars that shouldn't be compared to each other.

a troll huh. let see so far the only thing ive done on this forum is show you guys a bunch of videos that i thought you might enjoy. ive never once said anything bad about a suby. and ive given props to the cars. what i dont like is people like you who have never had any real world experience with these cars bad mouthing them. sure its still a neon. but at one point in time your cars were just impreza L's.what im trying to say is give the car a chance. dodge put alot of research into the engine and drivetrain and i honestly think its a good platform.

Look guy before you start calling me ignorant how about reading my original post?
I acknowledged that ya'll have a good amount of power and that's basically why ya'll bought the car right? Find me an article in a respected mag like Car and Driver, Motor Trend or Road & Track where they compare WRXs to SRT 4s. It's not in the same class.
I personally like the engine and HAVE driven the car at least 5 times.
Please don't cry about how I came back with a witty one liner after you made a witty one liner at me. So you can take shots at me and I can't take an equal shot back? Anyways, whatever...I'll give your neon some props it does have a lot of power going for it.

hey man not crying about it, im just overly sensitive. the srt-4 get's alot of **** from just about every other car forum so im always on guard. it just seems that most people dont give the car a chance. sure alot of the neon drivers are kids whose mommy and daddy bought the car for them and think that its gods greatest gift. these people give the car a bad name. im not one of these people.

I'll tell you why people look down on SRT-4's in particular. It's because no matter what the manufacturer does, you can't buy class w/o money and the reason most people buy cars is to buy social status. Traditionally you have to pay lots of money to get a fast car, and people aren't happy about the SRT-4 being such bang for the buck. A company like BMW would not put an m3 engine into a 1 series and sell for 20k b/c it wouldn't fit its business model.
Now WRX's and EVOs have kind of gotten off the hook from all this heat b/c both are seen as "novelty cars" fom the rally heritage and relative newness. The SRT-4 on the other hand is the perfect scapegoat b/c of its platform!
Anyways, this by no means is an arguement against buying an SRT-4. Personally I think it's a better car than the WRX. I don't think it's better than the STI or EVO. But that's just my opinion from driving them around and noticing that the SRT-4 (stock) actually handles on par and brakes, accelerates noticebly better than a wrx(stock). I also like it's interior better although that's subjective.
However like I said, if you care about image you can get away w/ the WRX b/c it's a novelty. You can't get away with the SRT-4 and people WILL look down on you no matter how much horsepower you pack, just like if you got a civic and rammed a bajillion HP into it.
Now maybe you are about to flame me: who the heck cares what other people think? EXACTLY, don't care what other people think. But if you are like most of the population you care what other people think.
