Thanks. Next time I promise I'll be a little more thorough with my homework.

If Porsche gets 400+ hp and tourqe out of a 3.6 Twin Turbo and yet is reliable, I don't know what the problem is. Why create a whole new engine when you can use the same engine out of the Carrera, and put on a pair of turbos and do a few other minor changes that give it more than enough power for the streets.
Why create a whole new engine? Because they can. And because of the mystique/marketing factor. Who's going to drop half a mil on a 6 cylinder engine, regardless of how fast it is? Anyways, Porsche has proven the point by building a larger, unboosted engine with far more power. Nobody claims that small engines are inferior, or less desirable. We are also focusing entirely on horsepower and torque here. How many cars can outrun a stock WRX while getting better gas mileage? Or with a wagon body in the same price range?

Our personal preferences and differences should be celebrated, and continue to be analyzed to death. It's a lot more fun than if we were to all agree.

Displacement

"AH TORQUE" He sighed wistfully as a distant look drifted into his eyes. "The thing I miss about my Lingenfelter LT4 caprice. All 420 lbft of it."

What he doesn't miss? The two 80 lb sand bags in the trunk and the pool his ex and son have about will daddy make it up the drive way when it snows. Not to mention the over under on how far he will make it, if only part way. And the tie breaker, how many tries before he walks up.

And then there is the idol of his youth. Or is that idle. The sound of a healthy engine as it divides 360 degrees of crank rotation into eight equal parts. Straight or Vee, eight is a magic number!

I get the displacement point.
I know I just wasn't finished. Nothing you said is untrue.

If you want torque, start looking into Electric. That IS a replacement for displacement
