Technology is no "replacement" for displacement! Why does everybody overlook the fact that anything you can do to a 1.8 liter I-4 can be done to a 350 or 427 too? I especially love these Honda guys who do nothing but crow about specific output- Have any of them done the math to see how much power you need to get 120hp/L out of 5.7L? You're talking a 10-second car, live-axle and all. The best part is, it can easily be done. Just build a 350 with very strong forged crank, rods, and pistons, fuel injected, with stand-alone engine management and about a 7000 RPM redline and 570hp is a cakewalk. So shut up about your freakin V-tec already. It doesn't GIVE you high RPM power, it STEALS it from low end. Sheesh. End of rant. Who wants to be first in line for the ride-along when I slap the 350 I outlined above into a '69 Stringray?

ive always felt this way towards domestic applications. and i always hate when you hear that "technology" crap.

"o those pushrods are sooo outdated", "my dohc vtec blah blah is so superior", "variable cam, yadda yadda". wake up, if your car generated enough torque down low then you would not need a variable cam system.

screw that, i read an article in one of my latest HOT ROD's where they blow a brand new crate hemi and get over 500+ hp.

talk about simple, effective, and most of all, safe. all brand new components, fuel injected crate engine, awesome

Yeah, but what car ever produced with a hemi ever matched up with a vette? And I'm going all N/A, probably won't even use Nitrous.

And the benchmark for my motor is 550-600bhp.

every type of application is different in characteristics, reliability, feel, design (sorry i am an engineering student) but it all apeals to different people, thats why there are different cars to begine with. I rode in my buddies all wheel drive ecclipse fully modded and it was the fastest car i have even been in, mid 11 sec car (but kept breaking) and i have rode in a fuel injected 454 stingray corvette, the most raw power i have ever felt, both cars completely different, but the same in invoking emotion. comes down to what ever floats your boat

All very true fellas. Personally I just like to point out discrepencies and fallacies that always seem to get perpetuated by some car guys. Speed is speed, and fun is fun, wherever you find it.

Its all good

I own a '57 Ford Ranchero tubbed with a blown 428 Cobra Jet and a 2003 WRX Sedan with significant mods. They are both amazing vehicles for very different reasons. That's the best part about loving cars. . .there are just so many out there that are fun to own.
