Technology is no "replacement" for displacement! Why does everybody overlook the fact that anything you can do to a 1.8 liter I-4 can be done to a 350 or 427 too? I especially love these Honda guys who do nothing but crow about specific output- Have any of them done the math to see how much power you need to get 120hp/L out of 5.7L? You're talking a 10-second car, live-axle and all. The best part is, it can easily be done. Just build a 350 with very strong forged crank, rods, and pistons, fuel injected, with stand-alone engine management and about a 7000 RPM redline and 570hp is a cakewalk. So shut up about your freakin V-tec already. It doesn't GIVE you high RPM power, it STEALS it from low end. Sheesh. End of rant. Who wants to be first in line for the ride-along when I slap the 350 I outlined above into a '69 Stringray?

i so agree with the poster above. there is no replacement for displacement. think about it. i4 's get on turbo's and nitros and then talk trash to domestics.(not all just some). yes the amount of horse power per liter is nice, but how is nice gonna win that race when that v8 has the same matchup. say a turbo and nos. he is gonna own your *** , sorry to say it. think about it. a single turbo civic takes a WHOPPING 1.6 liter to power. while a mustang (sn95) takes a Whopping 2.5l to power one turbo , and it is a twin. and yes there are some. althought most stangs are blown with a supercharger and new mustang with just simple mods with a super charger can easly put down 400 horses+. not to just down imports cause i like them, just consider it a wake up call - No replacement for displacement, and that so calleed technology domestics have it to, hell they invented it.

ive always felt this way towards domestic applications. and i always hate when you hear that "technology" crap.
"o those pushrods are sooo outdated", "my dohc vtec blah blah is so superior", "variable cam, yadda yadda". wake up, if your car generated enough torque down low then you would not need a variable cam system.

screw that, i read an article in one of my latest HOT ROD's where they blow a brand new crate hemi and get over 500+ hp.
talk about simple, effective, and most of all, safe. all brand new components, fuel injected crate engine, awesome

every type of application is different in characteristics, reliability, feel, design (sorry i am an engineering student) but it all apeals to different people, thats why there are different cars to begine with. I rode in my buddies all wheel drive ecclipse fully modded and it was the fastest car i have even been in, mid 11 sec car (but kept breaking) and i have rode in a fuel injected 454 stingray corvette, the most raw power i have ever felt, both cars completely different, but the same in invoking emotion. comes down to what ever floats your boat

Thats as good as it gets explaination wise. I didnt start this thread to **** anyone off, some people just have the love for a little bit of evrything. Somepeople are die hard AWD fans, and some FWD (for whatever reason). I had a Honda, MR2, Impreza, and now this truck. Ive ridden in or driven a wide range of cars, and to me, there is no feeling better than a 700+ HP car that is pure torque, with no power adders. I LOVE that feeling. Thats why I chose this project. Ill try to post some pictures as I go... THanks for the input though..

My previous car was a Camaro, 91 RS w/305 V* and auto (very hard to find a V8 Camaro with a manual, I found out!). I got rid of it because it didn't suit my needs as a daily driver (gas milage wasn't good for my long commuting, rains a lot here, so a powerful RWD is a PITA), and I like driving smaller cars when I'm in traffic. But I would like to get another V8 RWD car (Camaro, Firebird, Corvette, something like that) to have fun with on weekends or in the summertime. Sure, the 2.5RS has a lot of tourque, for a four-banger, but even modded, it's nowhere near that 305 V8. And, honestly, who doesn't love the sound of a rumbling V8? Keep us updated, I want to see what this Apache turns into!

Its all good
I own a '57 Ford Ranchero tubbed with a blown 428 Cobra Jet and a 2003 WRX Sedan with significant mods. They are both amazing vehicles for very different reasons. That's the best part about loving cars. . .there are just so many out there that are fun to own.

ok it may be me but, when you say a term like "there is no replacement for displacement" it kinda referes to the thought that a 5.4(351?) will never beat a 2.0(132?i think) in a drag race, with nods being equal. which is what it really does imply. althought on a road course it may be a different story more like a saying for "When weight is low turns are fast"
