NO replacement for DISPLACEMENT!!!
Howdy Guys and Gals,
I bought a 58 Chevy Apache, and I was seeing if anyone else was into that sorta thing.. Hopefully there are a few Domestic guys in here. I am building a 454 stroked to a 540, but needed to see if anyone knew about the Hilborn EFI systems. Has anyone ever used one of their systems? Does anyone have a late model Rod???

NOS, turbo, rotary, superchargers...
None of the above can provide the torque, raw power a big block (or even a small block for that matter) can. Especially NOS, the cheater's dream. I see it as something you do after you run out of parts to put on, not to replace upgrades as a short cut. Rotaries are the best designed motor for it's displacement, but still, it has it's own issues. Turbos and superchargers can make up for horse power, but never torque. I'm not trying to argue either way... I own imports, domestics, and have worked on/driven rotaries. I'm sure I know for a fact I dont know everything about cars, but from what I do know, there is NO replacement for displacement...

I forgot technology... yeah yeah yeah. I dont think it only implies to import cars. For example, Hilborn, a company that has been around for about 40 years. They know everything there is to know about electronic fuel injection. They make a turn-key setup for domestics. It doesnt get any better than that. The majority of companies that make parts for your car, started out making stuff and designing stuff for domestics (assuming its from the US).

wow thats sweet. i remember reading a little bit about Hilborn awhile back in one of my HOTROD's, - but- i do remember reading a review and rating on edelbrock's new big block efi setup, i would look into that. its a complete setup that looks really nice and install looks even nicer.
as cool as carbs are, the only way i would have one would be if they were dual demons atop a tunnel ram, that would be cool, or a blower. otherwise, there is so much versaitility, ease of tuning, etc.. just associated with building an efi car. most of the designs i like or would want to build associate with more of a "pro touring" image(which is in right now, for good reason). awesome handling, awesome speed, and of course, daily driveability. floats, chokes and rejetting just step on too many toes when they get used on a regular basis.
good luck
have any pics?

Lurch,
yeah yeah... my MR 2 has a Camery motor in it, so that's not something to be too proud of... Dont you worry your pretty little head, I will definately spank you with the "other" car. Talk to you later... when do you finish with your finals?
