The new Mitsu. Eclipse
Here's the first picture of Mitsubishi's next Eclipse, codenamed PS24S. The new coupe looks to be larger, featuring many of Mitsubishi's latest styling cues. No word on whether or not the sporty Mitsu will continue to offer both four- and six-cylinder powerplants, or if it will return to turbocharged four-bangers.
The new Eclipse is based on the all-new Galant platform, and is expected to arrive late in the 2005 model year, or possibly for 2006.

IMO Mitsu could fit a car that can compete directly against the WRX into their model lineup. Something slotted just under $25,000. They go from the Lancer OZ Rally edition, which costs what? 16 grand straight to the EVO. at 30 out the door. (I don't count the RalliArt 'cause no ones ever heard of it). I heard that the current eclipse shares it's platform with the Chrysler Sebring. Not sure if this is true or not, I heard from some kid who drives an eclipse who works at the Subaru dealeship here. So if that's true, we're probably stuck with a boring 4 or a boring 6 and FWD. I can just picture Tyrese cruising around Miami in his tricked out Sebring.

Yup, Sebring-Stratus styling for sure! If it's really the Chrysler platfrom, folks will probably save a lot of money just by getting the Chrysler or Dodge version.

Fun fact about the Eclipse: in Japan, the model was discontinued after the second-generation due to extremely poor sales. Yep, you got it, no Eclipse in Japan since '98. The reason why it was so unpopular was there were many better Mitsubishi's that were comparable in price and performance: the FTO Type RX, the Mirage ASTI-RX, the Lancer Cedia Turbo, and for a few thousand more the Lancer Evolution V.
Thus, the 3rd and 4th gen Eclipses can be considered American cars, much like the Honda Accord coupes, the Acura CL, the Civic coupe, the Toyota Avalon, the Nissan Maxima and many many more so-called Japanese cars that are not even available in Japan.
