Many people discount the Boxster as they did the 914 33years ago. But the Boxster outhandles the 911 today just as the 914 outhandled the 911 33years ago. One more point. Why do you think that Porsche always under powers any of the 911's sibblings even when they have the exact same engine??? Simple fact. The 911 is a very poor car as far as layout is concerned it is based on the old vw beetle (rear engine). When something like the Boxster or the Cayman comes out and is far superior in design and handling, Porsche has to underpower it in order to maintain its crappy 911 image.

Wow, bump from the past!

In your opinion, what is the best handling production Porsche, either past or current?

Wow, you are incredibly misinformed. Porsche just put out a 911 in Europe with 480hp and 476 ft/lbs of torque from 1500 RPM to 6800 RPM due to a special variable-geometry turbo; that's a 911 with the pulling power of a Ford F350. No such engine is available for any Boxter or Cayman models. The rear-engine layout of the 911 is based on the 365 roadster and the 695, a prototype. 911s regularly beat Boxters in open-class and spec races in Europe.

Here are some places to learn a bit more about the 911:

http://www.idee.demon.nl/

http://www.4wdonline.com/Porsche/History.html

http://www.porsche.com/international...ausen/history/

None of these sites mention the mistaken assumption that the VW Beetle had anything to do with the 911's design.
