Thank goodness the SRT-4 didn't make they list.

I'm getting ready to trade my WRX for an SRT-4.

That's like saying a impreza is nothing like a WRX.

Just prepare yourself. You'll probably only be able to trade the SRT-4 for a Vespa in a few years.

This just rocks:

"Buy a new, entry-level 2005 Neon now and in five years it will retain only 18% of its original value."

(from the slide show)

As the others noted, the Lancer and Neon are by no means, in any way shape or form, competiton for the Impreza series. However, the resale value problem is a very real one for American car owners. There is NOTHING more worthless than a 5-year-old American car, unless that car is a pickup truck; you lose $5,000 driving the car off the lot, and it only goes downhill from there.

^^^That might be a good thought...perhaps they could build some really mean azz trucks.

I'm interested to see how the SRT4 does in the residual value department in a couple of years. Will it feel the pain of being a NEON much less a DODGE?

Look at it this way....

The WRX has a lot better history to stand on than the SRT-4.

Dodge and Chevy are "trying" to nip at the WRX and Evo market that has been steadily growing since their debut.

Bottom line...

Which car has the better reputation? Subaru WRX or Dodge SRT-4?

Also in regards to the crash data....

From what I remember of the Lancers in Japan, there is really little difference in the structural department between the base line Lancer and the Evolution.

There is some strengthening to take the additional handling, and power, but depending on the area of the impacts on the car tested in the crash test, there may be no difference between base model and Evo.

And also to talk about the stats,

If a base neon is going to get back 18% of what is put in it, then a neon might be just a smigen better, but not my much.

look at this http://www.nbc4.tv/automotive/4259321/detail.html

The Dodge Neon was the worst performer. The institute called it "a disaster," noting that because of a poor structure the crash test dummies' heads were hit by the barrier during the crash test.
