Lag on the Auto WRX...
My dad just got a new '03 WRX with an auto (don't ask it was his choice) but he thinks there is too much lag between pushing the pedal and the car taking off.
I just wanted to know when he should expect to feel pull in the car? at what RPM on the auto?
Thanks
P.S. I just talked to him, and he says that the car starts to really pull @ about 3100-3300 RPM's, sounds about normal to me.

Yeah, I started looking into that stuff, but again my dad is in his mid 50's and wants the car to behave as close to stock as possible. I think he is going to go with the Perrin hoses, and possibly an up-pipe (unlikely since no one makes one with the bungs anymore it appears.) I figure the hoses will do enough for the time being hopefully it will get the RPM's below 3k which should be good enough.
Thanks for the reply though.

A pulley system isn't going to happen because the car doesn't really need it, yes there would be 4-5hp gained but at what cost?
The idea is to keep the car as stock as possible while reducing the lag, I think Subaru did a great job overall but the IC hoses and a few other minor things could have been cleaned up.
A pulley and up-pipe (in the form they come now) would be too much a deviation from the original and would really come under question if there was ever any kind of an "engine" problem with the car.

so basically what you are asking for is for a car part that reduces lag, ups hp, but cant be cited as "an engine mod". i have a bridge for sale too man
the main reason i said uppipe and pulley, is that these two mods have the most down-low impact, thereby getting rid of lag. as far as uppipes, there are about 150,000 companies to purchase them from, vishnu, turboxs, avo, cobb, various brands off gruppe-s, buschur racing, scooby sport, im sure you can find one to your liking.

I know what the best combo of parts would be, and if it were my car it would be IC hoses, Up-pipe, downpipe, pulley, exhaust, ECU. In that order, after that I could start on fuel and larger turbo's. Although I would probably just go to Vishnu and get one of his packages because he know's what he's doing, and it would make my life easier.
It's not my car though, my dad want's something that work's but won't throw up any flags at the dealership. The hoses he can get away with, as he can with a new filter and maybe even a new top-mount IC.
By the way if any of the 150k+ companies have an up-pipe that is simply a better flowing replacement piece, with all the necessary equip. I might be interested, as of right now "I" haven't seen anything that fit's the bill.

I would recommend the JDM uppipe as well. I think you can still get them from I-Speed.
Infek (the fastest 4EAT in Hawaii) tried a lightened pulley and lost performance.
A reflash would add significantly more power than a TMIC at this stage, and it would still keep your car looking stock. The hoses would bring more attention than the UP and reflash.

A reflash won't throw something up on their CPU's if they need to check the car out? I've never messed with chip's either I've gone stand-alone or I keep within the constraints of the car.
The hoses are flashy, but Subaru would have one helluva' time proving that the hoses=engine failure.

I think they just use OBD-II code checking devices which can read any bad codes that the engine throws... But if the car is remaped, I dont know if they can tell with such a device.
