Hakosuka (1970's Skyline GT-R)
While it seems to be largely unknown in the US, the GT-R didn't begin with the R32. The PGC-10 Skyline (see link), also called "Hakosuka" was an exceptionally well balanced RWD car. Long and short of it is that I'm gradually getting obsessed with these things, and I want to look into what it would take to get one. They're well over 20 yrs old, so they're DOT and EPA exempt, thus streetable with no questions asked. I'm really looking for:
Sites of importers who aren't J-Garage (already talked to them)
Links to other Hakosuka-related sites
Anything else at all related to these cars.

SUV: As far as I know, they don't need to be crash-tested or anything like that, that's the DOT exemption part. It's the same set of laws that allow people to drive around MG Sprites, which surely would not pass any sort of crash or safety testing conducted today.
ImprezaSTifan: Is that the 240z from Wangan Midnight in your avatar? It's pretty small, I can't really make out what it is. Funny you should mention 240z's though, I've been thinking about one of those if this whole Hakosuka thing doesn't work out.

Not too much has gotten past me in the car world since the early 70's (when I was 4 years old), but this stonky Skyline did. Impressive looking car. Surely a 2.8L or possibly 3.0L single cam Inline 6 in that thing, no?

LOL if your looking to importing one be prepared to pay around 10 grand for one in bad shape then add importing cost thats if you find someone that will put it on a pallet for you!!!
Parts for them are extremely scarce to say the least and chances of finding original parts cheap are a hell no. I have been researching the car for some time and tho I have found some pretty cheap we are talking around 7~8k they were in BAD shape to say the least.
P.S. I have seen one with an RB26 in it!!!

I have photo of one I saw in an auto museum in Tokyo (Venus Fort to be exact), along side a 2000GT. I could scan it and give it to you for free. Not the same, but I try.
I've never seen one on the road in Japan, so I would say they would probably be hard to come by even overseas. And Japanese people don't exactly take care of their cars and hord them in empty barns like we doin here.

Pacific I have seen a rare few driven. Thats to include a few toyotas and nissans as well. There was a law passed some years back in Japan and they just started crushing all the classics in the junkyard like there was no tomorrow. Now parts are scarce the vehicles are scarce and to say the least they are not taken care of not unless you wanna pay 20k.

If I hadn't been wearing my seatbelt I would have probably been critically injured or killed. Buckle up people.
I've ridden in some hellacious 240s. In the late 80's, there was a shop in San Luis Obispo called 'Z's Unlimited' that worked on my old ZX and others. Owner named Jack had the cleanest 240 ever, with 260-270hp from a ultra built 2.8 with triple webers, forged crank and rods, head work, camshaft of death, etc. Porsche Turbo fast.
