While they may be emissions exempt, don't they still have to pass certain safety regs to be legally imported?

I was looking at importing a 1970 240z for a while from japan and i found that it is both emisions and DOT exempt. To become DOT exempt it has to be over 25 years old and for the EPA it depends on the state regulations.
Cheers

Not too much has gotten past me in the car world since the early 70's (when I was 4 years old), but this stonky Skyline did. Impressive looking car. Surely a 2.8L or possibly 3.0L single cam Inline 6 in that thing, no?

Yup thats the car! 240's are really great cars though and some of the most historic sports cars in history (IMO) and a BLAST to drive. go to www.240z.org for some more information on them...plus theres a few people on there with the same car your looking for.
Cheers

240Zs are killer. Pretty much all of my friends from high school had one at one time or another. They don't weigh jack (2200lbs or so), and a few mods make the I-6 a *******. I'd hate to be T-boned in one, although the one I WAS in a rollover in held up well enough (I wasn't driving).

If I hadn't been wearing my seatbelt I would have probably been critically injured or killed. Buckle up people.

I've ridden in some hellacious 240s. In the late 80's, there was a shop in San Luis Obispo called 'Z's Unlimited' that worked on my old ZX and others. Owner named Jack had the cleanest 240 ever, with 260-270hp from a ultra built 2.8 with triple webers, forged crank and rods, head work, camshaft of death, etc. Porsche Turbo fast.

Parts for them are extremely scarce to say the least and chances of finding original parts cheap are a hell no. I have been researching the car for some time and tho I have found some pretty cheap we are talking around 7~8k they were in BAD shape to say the least.

P.S. I have seen one with an RB26 in it!!!
What's the standard engine in the thing?
