Grinding during Startup

During startup, after running the car for a little while then shutting off the car for like 5 minutes, my car sometimes doesn't wanna start or it seems like it won't hold the charge when i turn the key. Or sometimes when it's cold, there'll be a grinding noise then the car will start. Could it be the starter?? Maybe i need new spark plugs?? I have a 2001 2.5rs...can anyone help!!!???

Battery

A couple things can cause that and spark plugs have nothing to do with your starting system. Grinding on start can be from weak batteries not letting your starter engage before spinning, the next thing could be the starter getting weak. Check your battery out (connections, water, voltage). Check your charging voltage on your alternator at low idle then high idle, normally low idle should be about 13.5 VDC. It sounds like a charging problem to me, either the battery discharging too quickly or the alternator not producing enough output during idle. Most of the time it's just due to corroded battery posts or loose connections.
