Ford Supercar Named GT, Not GT40

What's in a name? Why is the Ford GT40 being called the GT when the first models are produced next year? Because the company that held the rights to the GT40 name wanted a little more dough than Ford was willing to pay. Ford offered the company $1 million and three GT40 cars to Safir GT40 Spares Ltd. of Cincinnati, which bought the name in 1999 and sells parts for GT40s built between 1964-1969. Safir wanted a tad more - $40 million.

i dunno, i think its good business. i doubt safir thought they would ever get $40 mil, but owning rights to the name GT40 is pretty damn big. and i think would be worth more than a cool mil. and 3 new "GT's", maybe not $40 mil. but a better deal could prob get struck in the future.think about it, the name pertains to their business, so its always smart to have some sort of ace up the sleeve.
