Car Info: 2002 WRX Wagon
I test drove a 5sp XT and it felt very quick off the line-- my comparison is an '02 WRX wagon. I was surprised. Imagine what Cobb could do with 2.5 turbo?!
From what I can decipher from the Japanese site, the Cross Sports pictured is equipped with 17" BBS wheels wrapped in 225/45's, sport suspension, VTD-AWD, HID's and Triptronic style shifting on a MOMO.
Yet another model, labeled “Backpacker Edition” seems to have an optional ride height adjustable air suspension similar to Audi and its new Vdubb siblings.

yeah...but the test drivers for that show always have slow numbers- they don't call it MotorWeak for nothing.
I find car & driver to have the most consistant testing- although turbo Subarus in their hands have been rather impressive little over-achievers. I wish I could see what they do when testing these AWD beauties (I smell clutch smoke!)

Well,
I used Motorweek as an example because they tested both cars (WRX and Forester XT). I am assuming that the method used when testing cars for the show is the same).
The WRX came at 5.6 and the forester came at 5.8. Isn't 5.6 the same Car&driver got out of the WRX?
Veteq.

car and driver first achieved a 5.4 0-60 in the WRX. The problem with these numbers is that you can only test a new car- not one broken in, and with a manual, the feel is so different from car to car- getting consistent runs out of the cars for comparisons becomes difficult. I find that if cars are withing .5 sec of each other- they are the same, unless measured back to back (like a comparison test)
In a long term WRX Car and driver achieved a 5.9.

Derbagley,
I couldn't agree with you more.
When looking for a car for my wife, we test drove 3 different WRX before deciding. The first one was a 2003 with 30,000KM, very fast; the second was a 2004 with 2,000 km, not that fast and very "nervous". After testing the second car, we almost changed our mind about buying the WRX. The sells person then offered us a 2004 with 9,000km and what a difference. The car was just as fast as the 2003 we first drove.
We got a 2004 and for the first 3000km the car was not that fast but it’s getting faster with every mile. Braking in the engine makes a big difference when it comes to the WRX.
What is the fastest 0-60 time recorded by a magazine for a stock WRX?

The fastest 0-60 time is 5.4
But they have not repeated it. Some people feel that they got a specially tuned model. I think it was just the right weather day, and a good run that put together the impressive time.
the next time it was 5.9 and I think they have had a 5.7 as well. What I take from it is that it's a sub 6 sec car with a turbo- mods are inexpensive and effective.
