Cobras don't have pushrods.
I linked here from Stangnet to read all about the WRX owner with blown engine, etc. I don't want to talk about that, (because your lock-happy mods will surely close this thread if I do) but I had to correct the comment by X1_SRT in the "You guys are arseholes" thread. No pushrods do not a musclecar make as the Cobra is a DOHC motor.
Just FYI.
And in case it was up for discussion. Any '96 and up Cobra would whoop up on a Subaru. Not that I don't like em, just the facts.

I was a hair away from placing an order for an 03 cobra, but my local dealer acted like he was selling me the space shuttle or something. I wanted one as my next new car, but I plan to buy something I will not hate myself for driving all year round. I was very close to buying a WRX until I read that thread.

yes, i have already been corrected on that point. sorry. my bad. but i do appreciate the much nicer response i got from you, than the one from QuickDomestic (see theO/T forum). i just get frustrated by people in my area who think that it HAS to have 8 cyl. to be fast, when my car would out corner any of them, and doesn't exactly get its doors blown off. yes i realize the cobra is a much better all around performer than the older muscle cars.
and just to add, there are subarus that would woop up on a stang. not that i have one or anything...

Are you sure about that?? In 96 till like 98, cobras were UNDER RATED from the factory. They claimed to put out 280 HP, let's just say that, that number is severly optomistic. I give you WRX guys a lot of cred, that's why I'm thinking its gonna be my first car, and if you can't tell from my handle I'm definately a muscle car, v-8 guy. As soon as I get enough cash after the purchase of the WRX, and Ellis Juan will shortly be in my future and rest assured, it will be able to carve the corners just as well as you're cars can.

Actually the 96 and 97 4.6 DOHC were rated at 305 hp with 300 lb tq. it was when Ford switched to the 4.6 with the supposed 320 hp that they had troubles that was either the 98 or 99 version.

If you decide to stay awhile and read some more posts you will find that the WRX can and does beat the Cobra's especially the 96 and up and the GT's are no challenge to a stock WRX. A WRX with just exhaust change can and does run in the mid 13's

Car Info: 02 WRX wagon=dead; rollin' in a Craptastic Camry!
I really like the way the H4 sounds and all, but that 32 valve Cobra engine sounds so darn sweet I can't believe Ashcroft hasn't tried to make it illegal yet!lol I would love to hear that every time I left an intersection.

I'll admit that the 96-98 GT's are turds, 99+ GT's are competive against the WRX I've never raced one so I cant speak educatively. A WRX will beat a Stang out of the box, but once a GT gets into higer RPM's thats when the power really kicks in. As for the Cobras. the 96-99 Cobras were IMO overated. In 2001 thats when the cobra shined and the 2003 cobra is Americas Toyota Supra, Six speed tranny, factory forged short block, and 112cu roots type blower. The block alone has already been dynoed to handle +700HP! I'm not trying to start a Mustang vs WRX flame war, IMO these cars both shine in different areas, but comparing the two is like comparing apples to oranges.

Hmm.. I had to chime in..heh I was a 99' Cobra owner aswell, i luved the car.. Sweet sound.....i miss the roar...sigh. Anyhow, the 03' car is actualy quite a nice car, I was lookin into getting one aswell, but decided I should get a car that is a bit more practical,, but with some performance too.
Hmm..was that a vette you were talking about with a procharger kit? It would only make sense assuming the 03' cobra was stock, pop on a procharger kit, and then see how it goes.. Supposedly, if you pop on a lightning pulley on the supercharger, the cobra should be in the 400hp range at the wheels...don't quote me on that...the eaton supercharger it comes with really capps out too quick anyhow, replace it with an autorotor..and youre rip roaring ready to go..heh...one of these days ill buy a toy cobra again. Don't get me wrong vettes are sweet cars and demand respect on the road..they prolly have one of the best pushrod engines on the road...AND yes there is no replacement for displacement..hehe
On that note, I still luv my wrx, and definitly don't regret gettin it, im just itchin to get that stage 2 kit into it..heh.....
LOL, '03 slobra. LOL. One of my buddies has a 98 LS1 T/A with a Procharger sys. on it and let's just say that he ran against an 03 cobra from a 50 roll giving him 2 cars before he got on it. By the time they reached 100 - 110, he had made up the 2 cars and put 2+ on him. Oh, btw, no replacement for displacement?? I still have to agree with this statment though boost does make up nicely for it. With displacment and boost, you're just ahead of the game
On that note, I still luv my wrx, and definitly don't regret gettin it, im just itchin to get that stage 2 kit into it..heh.....
