C230 Kompressor...Opinions

Actually, reports show a steady decline in Mercedes-Benz products in recent years. It is not the same Mercedes that was the benchmark for quality back in the 80s and early 90s. BMW has stepped up its quality as well as Porsche, but not Benz. Nowadays, it's only that hood ornament that sells the cars.
Practically speaking, a Lexus (Leader in quality and reliability), Acura (TL), or BMW. Infinity is great too, but overall quality isn't quite as high as the three aforementioned.
If i were to recommend a similar car to the one being considered, I'd say a BMW 325i, coupe or sedan.

Wow......strong opinions
Anyway, I know the C230 kompressor hatch is ugly, hell I hate the damn thing. But we're looking at the sedan model with the big assed crossed drilled rotors and AMG style front bumper.

That is similar to the statement that my dad made about my car when I first brought it by his place, it was stock at that time.
"Hmmm.. this is a car had the looks only an owner can love." , but watch his expression when he's driving it, he loves it!
After changing the headlights, and some other exterior things, he said it looks MUCH better.

how about to tsx? test drove it too and really liked it! it's a honda made in japan so very reliable.
a4 1.8t sucks! although it looks good with the sport package it's more money and the engine struggles with the weight of the car.
my 2 cents!

I hope that includes Me! IMO if you're going with europeans, I don't see how you could go wrong with a 3 series. Especially if you can get one before the "uglify" it for 2006. Although you'll probably have to settle for the smaller engine if you want to stay around 35K.
If you're considering Japanese brands the TL is probably the '900 lb. gorilla' in the bunch. I had a chance to check out the cars questioned at a Introduction event put on by Acura (I work at Pflueger). Some will automatically say I'm biased since I sell them, but those that know me know that I'm a straight shooter and a car enthusiast. You can check out my webpage review here: http://satoauto.com/tl_ride_&_drive.htm BUT if you gotta have RWD.... Oh well .................
