On our way back from west virginia, my friend was driving his dads 1.8t and we raced a rex wagon, he walked us fairly easily. Granted, the 1.8t is quick, but not that quick.

Yeah, I don't think a 2.0 with a turbo only would beat a wrx. My friend has a 2.0 (we call it the 2.slow LOL) and it's not quick at all. It does have it's moments, I suppose. One time he raced a v6 cougar from a stop and kept up (I wasn't in the car, btw, I was behind him NOT RACING). Well, whatever.

 

I beat a 1996 2.0l jetta in my 1988 Jetta GL with a 1.8

I caught an R32 last night on my way home from the office. I was just hanging out cruising as i usually do and this kid comes flying up on me.... i stand my ground and he does this BS pass on my right in traffic. I see him do some short weave and then gets in front where theres a nice long break in traffic... I wait until the car in front of me clears and now im in the same break ... nothing but this R32 about 250 yards in front of me.... I downshift and boost up and of i go. Once he reliezed that i was cranking down on him pretty hard he figured out that he either needs to get out of my way or go. He tried to go. I cranked past him pretty easily and just kept going. Once I got to the next line of traffic I just slowed down and he came barreling in as expected.


I didnt really notice any threat in his car...... at all.

HAHA thats craziness. Your car must be pretty fast, faster than my stocker I'm sure. What do IC hoses do exactly?? What I mean is, how do aftermarket ones improve performance?

BTW, I'm not going to give any details, but mustang gt's suck (wink wink).

 

If you look at stock IC hoses the bends are not as smooth...ie like port and polish, as the samco's which are rounder making air flow less restrictive to the IC. Plus they disapate heat more efficiently. Making a cooler smoother flowing charge from IC to the intake.

Yea.. i agree... after a few mods stangs go down pretty easily. As long as you dont meet up with the occasional cobra you'll be fine.

That's assuming the Audi was stock. Just because the car "looks" stock doesn't mean it is. Most VW/Audi guys chip there cars first thing. A 2.8L with a GIAC chip will give an easy 12+/- hp over stock. Could've had a stealthy sounding intake and exhaust also.

My wife has a 2001 A4 2.8L Tip and I have no problem over taking her on the road (she knows how to drive) in my WRX. I think your buddy doesn't know how to drive a turbo like mentioned previously...it took some getting used to for me to go from naturally aspirated VW to the WRX. Power band delivery is in different spots.

 

Speaking of turbo driven cars I actually saw a 87 GNX on the parkway this morning..... not the GN.... yes... i said the GNX... I had to bow to its mercy..

LOL, I seldom see a cobra where I live, and many times its guys trying to make their stangs look like cobras. I'm sure my 227 hp "beast" couldn't take down a 390 hp pony like that. If GTs with v8s in them are not as quick as a rex, I'd hate to see a v6.

The kid in the Audi definitely had the persona of a rich snobby kid, slouched in the seat with the whole crooked trucker hat thing goin on. Maybe he can afford doin stuff to his Audi, I guess I will never know.

O, and thanks Kwilson, maybe I'll invest in some IC hoses. Is that something I could do myself?

No prob Cabe. It's very easy to do... only one slight tricky part but other than that its easy. I waited till I did my up pipe and just did it then. It all has to come of anyway so why not. It's a cheap mod until I replace the IC with a front mount which is after the winter.


My recommendation is that if you see an 03 and above cobra.... unless your putting down 450+ at the wheels let them drive by like the rest of us.. I have a friend who bought an 03.... the day after he bought it he but in a full Basanni exhaust with X pipe and underdrive pully and it dyno'd at 535... at the wheels. I mean i think my car pulls pretty good but this thing is pure evil... the active suspension puts it all at to the ground to.... the **** is just mean...breaks your neck. Down side is he cant drive it in the winter.... I drive him in my suby... lol.
