I am nor sure about when you say that it picks up and drops off, but power on the WRX gets produced in the higher RPM range. In first and second gears the power comes at around 2300 RPM and as you go higher in gears so do the RPMs.
Hope this helps

Correct me if I'm wrong fellas.....but I think that's because the Turbo hasn't finished spooling yet.... After 2800 to 3000 or so, then you feel the kick. That's when you know the turbo is doing it's job.

What Junnel said - under normal driving conditions the turbo starts to spool up at 2800rpm but if you're accelerating, you wont feel the kick till you hit about 3000rpm 'cos it takes a second or two to get up to speed.

Bonkers.

If it's jerky speeding up then something isn't right, mine doesn't jerk. The easiest thing to do is to let another Scooby owner drive your car and see what's going on.
Good luck getting it sorted out.

I know what you're talking about. I experience it occassionally, but it shouldn't normally happen. Take it to the dealer and find out what it is, then let me know!
