230 hp dogde srt-4 for '04
according to motor trend, the '04 srt-4 is suppose to have 230hp and lsd. we all know that the car was underrated from the start. i think they are saying it WILL have 230 hp so that the output can be close to what it really has. Also, it says that it is faster than the wrx past the 1/4 mile.

yep. but its still a neon and doesnt have that wonderful thing called AWD...I'll have plenty of fun going snowboarding this winter and cruising by all the poor schmucks without AWD. dont get me wrong, the SRT-4 is a very respectable car (if you want to go fast in a straight line) but thats what dodge is famous for right? (previous dodge owner) personally I think it would take some serious effort for any domestic car manufacturer to knock the EVO and WRX/STI off the pedestal because nobody is offering an "all around" package (turbo, AWD, handling and styling) the neon styling is still very "plasticy" (if thats a word) and I would'nt be surprised if they start having some head gasket issues, seeing that it was always a problem with their turbo 2.2 motor. the SRT-4 and wrx are'nt really in the same category, take that neon to a road course and run it with a rex and you'll see who has built the better "race car"

I like it. I'm happy that they're finally starting to sell some in my area - I went MONTHS before seeing my first one, now I see one or two nearly every day. It's a hot looking car..MUCH better than the base Neon.
But I still prefer my WRX.

what are you talking about the srt-4 cant handle(yeah, like the wrx is such an awesome performer compared to some other cars). im here looking at the august issue of scc in which they name their 8 great cars and the neon posted both better slalom(69.9 vs. 67.4) and skidpad numbers(.86 vs. .84) than the wrx(along with the mini cooper s, nissan sentra se-r spec v, and mazdaspeed protege). the neon also ran the quarter mile in 14.0 seconds while the wrx took 14.6 seconds. (the neon was slower to 60 though). on top of that, every one of those cars is cheaper than a wrx, with the protege costing the most at 20,400 vs the wrx's 24,500.

Ummm......sorry guys but,
The SRT-4 also makes a great road course car. The proof?
Car and Driver's One Lap of America.
An SRT-4 (admittedly- this was a factory run car, but according to the story they used a stock SRT-4 with some basic handling mods from the mopar catalog) beat out the modded WRXs and EVOs!
It kinda scared me. But there are reasons to buy over the SRT-4
Build Quality, luxury of interior, looks are all better that in the neon. Not to mention AWD. Last winter here in the Northeast was not good for my front driver- and that's with snow tires!
If my plan was for a car that I would want to race, and then still run around in when I had to- the neon might win. But, Since my vehicle sees far more varied usage, the WRX gets my money when the time comes.

Tires make a huge difference in slalom and skidpad numbers. The SRT-4 comes stock with Michelin Pilot Sports, while stock WRXs have to make due with the less than stellar RE-92s. I didn't see the SCC article, but this might help explain the numbers.
I'm sure the SRT-4 does have a Mitsubishi turbo, considering Chrysler's long relationship with Mitsu. They've been sharing cars and technology since the '70s.
