what won't work? anything or just blu-ray?

I have a PS3 going to a Samsung LCD 1080P via a Harmon Kardon receiver (all HDMI).

I had to return the PS3 because it didn't play blu ray after the firmware update but played DVDs and games. After swapping the PS3 I have yet to try blu ray, hopefully this weekend.

It's a hand shake issue. Cable could be it, try a cheap one from radio shack.

PS3s aren't known for hand shake issues. Samsungs aren't either, but, samsung doesn't make good TVs anymore, sorry to say. (just, from personal experience through work and people I know who own them)

or it could be a HDCP issue.

when your TV is on, on the correct input and then you turn the PS3 on, do you get a picture for 2-8 seconds (then blanks out or goes to snow)?

If so, that's HDCP issue. could be the PS3, but may be the samsung.

Well, you're the clear winner thus far. Have any pics of the set-up? I'd love to see some pics once you're rocking Paradigms. What model are you looking in to?

So you work for OPPO huh? <napolean d.>Luckyyyyy</napolean d.> My plan was to buy an OPPO upconverting DVD player this last time around but someone gave me the 1080P7 for free, and I can't say no to free even if it is inferior to the OPPO I had my eyes on. Do you guys have any plans on picking sides between HD DVD and Blu-Ray? I'm sure you can't tell us even if you are...

logically its setup like this:

980 is on port 1 of the hm31
bdp1000 is on port 2 of the hm31
dish reciever is on port 3 of the hm31

the hm31 goes into the onkyo on hdmi 1 which is assigned to the DVD function of the onkyo. the onkyo goes hdmi out to the tv on input 6.

the sonicview is component to the tv on input 3. optical to the onkyo on optical 1, assigned to the cable/sat function.

the xbox (which runs xbox media center) is component to the tv on input 4. optical to the onkyo on optical 2, assigned to game/tv function.

i own a logitech harmony 880 remote that controls the whole thing.

the hm31 is a 3x1 switch that is remote controlled. its also auto switching giving priority to the port number. (1>2>3) but i just have programmed into the logitech.

yeah working for oppo has been a great experience. never seen such commitment to customer service from a company. its been perfect fit for me and my personality and their misson and goals.

the paradigm setup that im looking to pickup is:

monitor titans for fronts
monitor atoms for surrounds (currently 2 but might get 3 for a 6.1 setup. not sure yet)
190 center channel (may go little bigger, not sure)
pdr-10 subwoofer

the room is about 20x20. right now the tv is against 1 wall, but if i go 6.1 ill move the tv to the norner and rewire onkyo appropriately.

we dont have any plans right now for a next gen player. we have our licensing but we dont know what we are going to do. the chips out there are slim pickings and we wont just take a sub par decoder, thats just not what we do. our coders also cant code just any chip so we would like to see what mediatek may have available in the future since we have a relationship with them and our coders can code for them.

right now we are working on getting our 983 super dvd player up and running, and its going to be our sole development project for a long while. we're trying to do something thats never been done before, and with the hd formats in their infancy we arent in any rush.

if anyone has questions, do ask, im here to help!

Well, seeing as OPPO has no immediate plans for a "next gen" media player I took the plunge and purchased a 360 add-on drive this morning. I wasn't very happy with the stand alone players selection at the moment so this add-on should hold me over 'till OPPO does make one if/when they do. The add-on deal is a nice one at Amazon; one free movie in box and a mail-in rebate for 5 additional free movies and free shipping all for the usual $179.99.

If you don't mind me asking, what is your position at OPPO, Gagan?
