Your 2012 Oakland Athletics Baseball Thread
Holy Toledo! I thought we already had a thread for this season's green & gold.
Lots to talk about over the last couple days.
Along w/ the series win vs. the Twins today, Colon gets suspended 50 games for PEDs... namely testosterone a la Melky. I'm VERY disappointed since he is/was the club's sole veteran starter on the mound.
Yesterday, Brett Anderson returns after 14 months due to Tommy John surgery. He pitched OUTSTANDING... 7.0 IP, 6 K, 0 BB, 1 ER, 86 pitches-62 strikes, 4 hits given up.
Also, Seth Smith back from DL, SS Stephen Drew acquired via trade w/ ARI, Jemile optioned back to the River Cats, as well as other moves.
I went to last Fri nite's game vs. the Tribe. Milone gave up a grand slam in the 4th, but they came back w/ 3 runs in their half of the inning. Tied it up the next inning. Then, the hot-hitting Donaldson put 'em ahead in the 8th and Penni added an insurance run w/ a sac fly. Awesome night of baseball.
I'm going to next Fri's game vs. Bawh-ston, too.
They had an AWESOME July. Bah! Too much to catch up on.

Kind of embarrassing that we didn't start one in March or April so I didn't think it was necessary. Especially since they've been outperforming most expectations without a dedicated thread.
This team's success makes no sense which is equal parts awesome and frightening.

I was at Saturday's game which means I'm one of the few who most likely saw Colon pitch his last game in the majors. At least now he will have time to chase his true passion in life, the ice cream truck.

Yup! Shame on us for not creating this thread back in March.
Funny how I forgot about the triple play, but I was just so stoked on Anderson's performance after the long lay-off. Rosie made a great turn at 2nd on that play.
I chalk up the team's success, esp. last month, to the solid pitching that they've been known for in the last dozen years. And their bats finally came alive, too. They're playing much looser and have what seems like a different guy every game come through in the clutch. But yes, it is shockingly beautiful how they've been able to play so well thus far.
eScubroo: Did you go esp. for Filipino Heritage Night? I thought about springing for those, but just ended up doing the Family 4pak.
at those digs on Colon. I wonder had Melky been able to swing that fake website dealio, if Bartolo would've claimed he'd gotten his goodies from there, too.
And, that one inning sucked today for Tyson. Plus, our boys couldn't get their bats going since the Rays' pitcher Cobb had great command of a strikezone that seemed a mile wide.

12 games over .500 going into the stretch. Not bad for a team that started the year expected to finish last in the division.
I don't know how they do it, but I'm glad theyre still getting it done.

All of this with them being in one of the most competitive divisions. Texas just won't stop winning and the Angel's are no slouches either. Seattle is pretty far behind but even they had an impressive winning streak going not too long ago.

Man, last year, I put a $20 bet in Vegas that the A's would be AL champions. I knew I'd lose that bet anyway, but it was a "what if..." bet. I haven't gone to Vegas since last summer, so I never got to put in the same bet before spring training. I'd probably lose that bet again, but hey, an A's fan can have hopes, right?
On a side note, I knew I shouldn't be making fun of Melky Cabrera and Giants fans when he tested positive for HGH. Then Bartolo Colon tested positive and well, here we are. =/

They're down to the last 35 games of the season. And it doesn't get any easier after this series with Cleveland.
By most accounts they've got to go at least 20-15 or better down the stretch if they want to keep playing in October. Problem?
This is more like Major League than Moneyball this time around. I'm stoked!!!
