X Games claims it's first
This is the first actual in contest death. I'm sure it will not be the last. These guys are pushing the limits.

Pushing the limits yes, but for what purpose? This sort of trick "sport" is for entertainment only. Sure it takes skill and athleticism just like any other motorsport, but I guess I don't' really see the point of doing flips on snowmobiles?

With best tricks comps you have guys that do nothing but do one trick over and over again. They start in foam. Then carry it over. They may or may not have much skill with the bike or sled at all. But they can do one trick. It's crazy.
We're constantly pushing the limits of technology and the human body. This will happen more and more often.
Next up is the first death on the NFL football field in the modern era.
Got dude running 4.5 and 300lbs.

christ.. i honestly think the snowmobiling is getting to be too much, i always liked the races but the jumping is a lot, dirtbikes are one thing but flipping one of those bored out snowmobiles is playing with fire imo, sad to hear

I don't see the problem. The rider knew the consequences when he got into the sport. Not everyone is going to be happy with what people call normal jobs. These guys are stuntmen and are professionals, they take calculated risks with a fine margin of error. The consequences caught up with him. I'm sure there's an insurance policy that will pay his survivors pretty well.
Yes, it's sad. But **** happens.
This is coming from someone who got paid to do exhibitions just like this and had their fare share of bumps and bruises, including a couple near death instances. I owe my life to a helmet, and waking up on a stretcher isn't all it's cracked up to be.

Someone could easily say the same thing about any sport.

Looks like he could tell he in trouble as soon as he launched that second one and tried to save it. He should have bailed.
RIP.
Not seeing your point. Of course it can, but I doubt we will see anyone die in golf as a direct result of the sport anytime soon. All motorsports are dangerous, period; some more than others.
